I support this petition. I also support ample government funding of the CBC, but only to the extent that this funding advances the mandate of the Corporation. Far from doing so, mainstream pop music breaks faith with the CBC's audience.

CBC is an important cultural voice of Canada, and I don't want it commercialized. I too have been dismayed by the increasing pap content. While I remember when I NEEDED my own music on the radio, I also remember that I got this from alternate channels and not mainstream commercial radio. Make room for it elsewhere.

cbc has a special place in canadian culture There are plenty of other stations to fill the commercial and popular needs of the population.

CBC radio one has been dumbing down for a long time. With S. Rogers music,DNTO,Pop Culture, music is on many programs, I can't stand to have my radio on with most of that music.
I've lost interest in CBC One, with great sadness and disappointment in CBC.
Do we need Public Radio if this is what it offers?
I support this petition. Stop the gutting of all aspects of CBC. Lets get innovative and not follow the normal sad state of the bland sameness. Shame on you.

I cannot tell you how disappointing it is to hear the pap that once was good solid programming - come on - give us a bit of intellectual stimulation, some challenging entertainment, some Canadian reflections!
Young and hip radio is great when it's driven by intelligent ideas and people (eg Wiretap). Trying to harness the power of young and hip without actually being young or hip can lead to some righteously stinky radio (eg GO). But let's get back to our Canadian roots (eg Mahler, yeeeah boooey).

I'm sick of CBC breaking perfectly sound programs for stupid youth marketing reasons.
I've been listening since I was born -- I didn't need to be catered to (patronised) then, and I don't need to be neglected now.
I support this petition.
If I wanted bad mainstream music, I'd listen to a bad aminstream station.
CBC get back to your mandate please - I am looking for intelligent journalism (and the radio noon phone in wouldn't hurt)
Enough fluff, I can find that anywhere.
I support this petition.
We don't need to hear from Elton John or Madonna on our national station thanks. There's enough of that crap on every other station.
I support this petition. Public radio honors a civic and cultural privilege / obligation to provide progamming that private stations cannot afford to air. Please do not make a short-term decision which can breed long-term Canadian content bankruptcy. Where else can we go to find such soul?
To quote Ms. Ryan in Globe and Mail:
"This is the kind of show you can have on in the background at work, in the dentist office, moms at home. We're really hoping we can move into the work market, the office market, retail..."
Mr. Rabinovitch et al:
Do you feel that it should be the ambition of a CBC program to be in the background?
We love the CBC because it invites us to listen, not be pacified.
I believe a major reason for having a publicly funded radio station is to broadcast challenging, interesting, and stimulating content that by its nature doesn't have a mass appeal and therefore won't be heard on commercial stations. Popularity (i.e. numbers of listeners) is not necessarily an indication of quality or cultural relevance.
I support this petition. CBC has a responsiblilty to Canadian culture which is more important than mainstream dollars. Its uniqueness is appreciated, despite the lack of "demographics".

While CBC Radio Two is not quite there yet, it is well on its way. Everything is dumbed down in the name of being popular. Where is the accountability, where are the polititians when you need them?
I support this petition. Please don't distroy the only refuge I have to listen and think and learn. The C.B.C. is unique and deeply important to the entire country. I as a U.S. now new Canadian can only hope that you wont go the rute of the lowest common denominator simply for ratings! There are thousands of hungry minds out there who are not as vocal but who are ardent listeners. You are the first thing I hear in the morning and the last thing I hear at night and frequently through out the night when I cant sleep. I would be sad indeed to turn my radio off for good. Please keep up with the high standards you have always followed.

During the CBC "lockout" I began to listen to NPR from the states and have now remained with it as the station of choice to listen to all kinds of music and adult (as in mature, as in serious and informed and calm rather than "cute" and "up" and "fun" and "catchy" and "hip" or whatever adjective it is you think best describes the drivel on CBC today...on either station.
I support this petition. I listen to the CBC to hear more Canadian music. If I want to hear banal Top-40 trash (interspersed with annoying shouty ads), I tune in to one of the ridiculous excitable local stations.
Give us back our CBC!
