I support this petition. Last year we had an excellent noon time call in program hosted by Don Hill that covered important issues in Alberta. When Don covered hot issues like electrical deregulation in Alberta, he was removed. We now hear rumors that This show (Wild Rose Forum) is going to be discontinued. We have less and less relevant regional programs.

I support this petition. I'm not adverse to the National Playlist, but Freestyle is as inane as any of the commercial radio shows that have kept my dial tuned to CBC for several years. Inane banter and the same top 40 drek that can be heard anywhere. Please bring back the more intelligent and Canada-specific programming I have appreciated in CBC prior to the lock-out.

I support this petition. While I have heard some great Canadian music on Freestyle, and I am impressed by their "featured artist of the week", a look through the playlists shows A)far too much American content and B)far too much music that is played to death on other commercial stations. CBC's strength is that it is DIFFERENT than commercial stations. Pop music is not inherently bad, but why play the same material that can be heard on radio stations everywhere (not to mention shopping malls, offices, etc..)? I would much prefer to hear material that is not getting enough airplay; that is one of the reasons I choose to listen to CBC. The "hipper-than-thou " water cooler banter also needs to be toned down a bit. As one of CBC's younger listeners (I'm 35, and began listening while in university), I don't feel this sort of thing will attract a younger demographic. Certainly classic rock isn't going to impress the teenagers. Do what you do best and present intelligent conversation and interviews peppered with great Canadian musical gems (and more roots music!) and the listeners will find you.

I wholeheartedly support this petition. I am not a great fan of phone ins (except for Konrad Edgbyk sp?)BUT the daily phone in was heaven next to the drivel and pop music which emanates from Toronto and now gets turned off every afternoon. Bring back Max Ferguson (or at least somone like him with a totally eclectic musical taste) for two hours on a Sunday like the "Good Old Days" also Richardson's Roundup and give Sheelagh some decent guests to work with. I find myself listening to more and more BBC Radio over the Internet and it really is a shame with the ammount of talent readilly available within Canada. We also turn the Radio OFF a lot more than we ever used to.

I am an avid listener of Radio Two. Radio Two provides a uniquely Canadian broadcasting service. Radio One should do the same. By trying to be "popular", the CBC is inappropriately using public funds to compete with and duplicate private broadcasting. Stop wasting my tax dollars on Madonna!

Sorry, I thought this petition said "stopcbcpap". Oh well, it amounts to the same thing. Do what you do best, and stop this pathetic "look how cool we are" nonsense. And yes, if you're going to play music, at least don't play the same top 40 American garbage as your commercial competitors. They know how to do it. You don't.

I support this petition. Maybe it's time for not only CBC Radio but also CBC TV and other Canadian public, indie and commercial radio and TV broadcasters to, instead of lowering their broadcast standards to the commercial "Dumb Down the Youth - if we mak'em stupid they'll buy more crap culture" to bring the standards of the youth market up to a higher cultural level. Gee, wasn't it in a movie about broadcasting that the words "I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore" become a battle cry agains stupidity in broadcasting. Come on CBC, instead of "Dumbing Down"... "Smarten Up". A one time, but no more, listener to CBC. At least 'til they come to their senses. You've lost an audience you already had for one you may not get.

I am appalled by the introduction of the spate of mindless commercial programming on the CBC. CBC listeners are intelligent, and interesting people who are interested in way more than the banal pap which most commercial stations serve up. There is a reason we listen to the CBC - because we want an intelligent, informed and artistic vision for our national radio network. Please bring back the literate and thoughtful discussions along with the interesting acoustic/traditional/root s music that is the heart of our great country.

There is nothing wrong with independent, alternative, Canadian, pop music, but these shows are not advancing that cause. The soft-pop, classic rock, trite commentary of these shows is insulting and just painful to listen to. Please bring back CBC programming that cares about Canadians and Canadian music and not about catering to the lowest common denominator of the office workplace.

I strongly support this petition. With no shortage of american style top 40 pop radio to listen to why should CBC provide more of this vacuous programing. DNTO does a fairly good job af examining pop music and culture in interesting way. There should be time for traditional canadian folk music on Canadian national public radio.

I support this petition. I have listened to the CBC for many years, and I am appalled by the banal and vacuous programming in the new CBC shows like "Freestyle" and the "National Play List". The content is an insult to the intelligence of Canadian listeners, who are entitled to having a publicly-supported radio station that provides stimulating, thought-provoking content in addition to regularly featuring the interesting and uniquely-Canadian music that is being produced in our country today. If I wanted to listen to mindless radio programs that feature the likes of Madonna and other Top 40 music I would have plenty of "easy listening" choices on the radio dial. The CBC should be providing an alternative to those shallow and superficial stations---if it doesn't, I will definitely stop listening.
