Chicago Board of Education Meeting
May 24, 2006
Jason English
My name is Jason English. I was a plaintiff in Corey H.
I am ANGRY about the $25 million dollar cuts to special
education in the Chicago Public Schools.
Reducing cash for disabled students in Chicago is wrong and will
deny our legal rights for an equal education under the A.D.A.
I struggle with my brain to figure out how to prove to you
that disabled children want and deserve a better
education. By cutting funds, school staff will be laid-off and
assistance to disabled students lost. Once again
separation of disabled students will increase abuse of the
Corey H. lawsuit and A.D.A.
In high school my aide made it possible for me to be mainstreamed
into a Chicago Public high school and educated in my
neighborhood instead of another expensive private school paid for
by the Board.
That is why I became part of the Corey H. lawsuit.
It is an INSULT and an OUTRAGE to me and all disabled
Americans to cut money and services from our children.
I DEMAND that the $25 million in special education cuts be
reversed to save our futures as valuable and independent
Americans.
We KNOW OUR RIGHTS! We will NOT be denied!
We are PROUD! We are LOUD!

Tekki Lomnicki :
wholeheartedly! I have been teaching for Gallery 37 for almost 10 years and
have watched my students with disabilities flourish in the mainstream
environment with the help of their aids. I can't imagine why CPS would
want to get rid of such valuable support...and I won't stand for it! |

with disabilities? |

KimberlyGreene :
Will it take another class action suit to get you to pay attention again?
And how much will you spend to defend yourselves? Find another way, but not
special ed or funding connected with it. The schools are short staffed as
it is. This is not acceptable. See ya in court./ |

3 Jun 2006 - 14:05
Jose Zamora :
I not only disagree with the CPS's decision to cut funding from the
Special Education Budget, but I believe it has overstepped itself by
choosing to marginalize a group of students--which, by definition, is an
act of discrimination. |
| 19 |
3 Jun 2006 - 15:59
Christie Gilson :
The IDEIA mandates a free and appropriate public education in the least
restrictive environment. Cutting a budget as drastically as CPS has
suggested will result in a more restrictive environment for students who
are Deaf or hard of hearing. I urge CPS to reconsider the proposed cuts in
light of the mandates set forth by IDEIA. Otherwise, CPS may spend a
comprable amount of money iin litigation. |

because students with disabilities deserve the same opportuinity to a good
education as all other students. Also, many of the teachers that will be
cut are young, energetic, passionate, and committed to teaching in their
specialty. They will be a great loss to the students and the
"system". |

I support this petition because of the impact budget cuts will have on the
future employment opportunities for students with disabilities. If
students with disabilities are unable to receive the educational services
they need, this will mean that it will be more difficult for them to find
jobs and/or become more academically qualified to enter postsecondary
educational institutions. |
