15 Jun 2006 - 5:57    Cris Bul-lalayao : because they are a part of this human race. They may have disability but they have the right to be educated like everyone else. Education would encourage them to have hope in their future.
15 Jun 2006 - 7:30    Crista Lebens : I work at a university whose special mission is to make higher education accessible to students with disabilities. It is crucial that adequate staffing and resources be available to students with disabilities so they have the ability to go on with studies at the college level.
15 Jun 2006 - 19:51    Robert Quiaoit :
15 Jun 2006 - 20:34    Marcie Sacks Botto : because as a college counselor and hard of hearing individual,I find it inexcusable that the CPS board wants to cut the budget for Deaf Education, when the services are already woefully underfunded and inferior to many other Deaf K-12 programs.

16 Jun 2006 - 20:36    Diane Handelsman : As an occupational therapist working with people with disabilities for over 40 years, I know there is a significant difference in achievement when there is a low student to teacher ratio. Students with disabilities need the extra assistance to progress and succeed. Please do not cut funds for this vulnerable population - give the the help they need. Thank you. Diane Handelsman

19 Jun 2006 - 18:23    Elizaabeth T. Osten : As an occupational therapist of over 30 years, I work with many children from the Chicago public schools. I have seen first hand the need for more not less support for children. This is especially true for childen with disabilties. To cut funds or to expand the teacher to student ratio guarantees that Chicago's children will continue to fall behind children from other areas in Illinois and the rest of the country.
19 Jun 2006 - 23:25    Sylvia Griffin :
20 Jun 2006 - 0:37    Karen :
20 Jun 2006 - 1:17    aldo aranda :
20 Jun 2006 - 4:20    Naomi Ortiz : Young people with disabilities are facing more barriers to graduate. Many must now pass standadized tests in order to recieve a diploma in order to move on to college or work opportunities. It is now when young people deserve access to their right to barrier free education.
20 Jun 2006 - 4:47    Stacey Milbern : education is the key to financial stability and independence. If youth with disabilities succeed, society will benefit as a whole. I urge you not to make these cuts.
20 Jun 2006 - 13:34    Patrick Smock : Working with pediatric and neonatal patients at Children's Hospital in San Diego for the last 32 years, it's difficult to fathom how anyone could consider financial cuts for services to disabled students. Shame Chicago for your lack of compassion and lack of understanding for those who suffer already from a lack of publice services.
20 Jun 2006 - 19:39    Adriana Esparza : because as a concerned Illinois taxpayer & social service professional, the budget cuts facing the CPS & especially the underrepresented minority of special needs students these cuts are appalling & frightening. I know how a great education can foster a productive citizen, without a quality program w/ professionals that meet the needs of these already challenged students, they will be lost as adults. Please reconsider these cuts & think about the future of these children!
21 Jun 2006 - 1:58    cliff berru :
21 Jun 2006 - 5:39    Querido Galdo :
21 Jun 2006 - 10:59    Howard A. Rosenblum : because the state of special education is deplorable.CPS should be redoubling its efforts to ensure that all students with disabilities receive an appropriate education. Instead, CPS is cutting back. The inevitable result is an even more substandard education than is being provided now. This is crucial because only through education can people with disabilities achieve true equality.
