4 Jun 2006 - 23:02    Jude Conlon Martin : The CPS proposed budget cut from special education services will further decrease both the availability and the quality of education for disabled students. As a result, there will be an increase in lower education levels of disabled youth leading to unemployment, homelessness and/or institionlization. Young persons with disabilties are entitled to equity in education. The CPS's failure to provide equity in education for students with disabilities is disability-based discrimination.
4 Jun 2006 - 23:38    Steven Brown :
4 Jun 2006 - 23:51    Paula Borman : because ignoring the potential of children with disabilities is not the proper way to trim a budget.
4 Jun 2006 - 23:53    Joe Hall : The National Disabled Student's Union stands against cuts to special education in any aspect. Especially those that limit the quality of education to disabled students. Federal law mandates that every young person in this country have access to affordable accessible education, and the Chicago school system is no exception!
4 Jun 2006 - 23:55    Sarah Lawrence :
5 Jun 2006 - 0:13    Annalise Raziq : Diversity is important to the strength of our communities and our society as a whole. Marginalizing those with disabilities hurts not only them but all of us by cutting off avenues that give voice to different ways of seeing the world. We seem to be able to find the money for all sorts of unimportant expenditures when the self-interest of the powerful is at stake. While those who are perceived as lacking influence suffer. It's de****able.
5 Jun 2006 - 0:44    Dr. Linda Risser Lytle : I support this petition because as a psychologist I see first hand how education can change lives. Please give ALL children a chance to succeed.

5 Jun 2006 - 1:18    rebecca pad :
5 Jun 2006 - 1:50    Pierre Rowen : There is money for war in Iraq but not for investing in our children?

5 Jun 2006 - 2:19    Heidi Hough :
5 Jun 2006 - 2:19    Joe Check, LCSW, MEd. :
5 Jun 2006 - 2:27    Emilio Pacheco :
5 Jun 2006 - 3:38    John G. Smith : all students have a right to Free Appropiate Public Education. Like so many barriers to persons with disabilities, a deaf or hard of hearing student who is not afforded an interpreter as needed in the classroom does not face an educational hardship, s/he faces absolute exclusion from what is happening, then we wonder why these students drop-out at such high rates. What better public investment is there than assuring ALL students have the chance to succeed, and carry that success and confidence into their lives as adults?
5 Jun 2006 - 4:05    Lucie Nagy : children who desparately need services will be affected with no other recouse. Pt yourself in the place of a deaf child FOR ONE day and try to learn something new. Travel in a whel chair or use an appliance for one day or spend the day in a group of foreign speaking people and try to learn somehing. Think outside the box. Funding is not easy... but maybe you can get a sports team to Adopt a school or sell items students make n E-bay. Come on people, do something besides ELIMINATE IMPORTANT JOBS AND SERVICES.
5 Jun 2006 - 5:14    Joey Falby :
5 Jun 2006 - 5:30    Marissa Johnspn : I support this petition because students with disabilities are entitled to a FREE AND APPROPRIATE public education by IDEA and they deserve to be educated alongside their peers!!!!!
5 Jun 2006 - 5:49    Anita B.Thomsen :
5 Jun 2006 - 5:58    Kathy McCreedy : it requests that CPS provide what is required by law and is needed for these students to get an equal education.
5 Jun 2006 - 6:04    Julie Garcia :
5 Jun 2006 - 6:48    Richard Long : You government "funders" should be thoroughly ASHAMED of yourselves! Ask yourself what your mother would think of what you are doing. SHAME ON YOU!
5 Jun 2006 - 7:03    Thomas Baker : We suggest the CBOE fire itself and its bloated administration. That should cover the shortfall.
5 Jun 2006 - 7:03    Jill Gottke :
5 Jun 2006 - 7:04    Patrick Maher : I support this petition as students with disabilities must have the appropriate levels of support necessary to help them achieve success and move toward further levels of education.

5 Jun 2006 - 8:22    Caroline Herzenberg :
5 Jun 2006 - 8:34    Angela Novak Amado, Ph.D. : Without appropriate support for these students, they WILL be "left behind." Are you or are you not FOR "No Child Left Behind."
