Their voice should be heard. They are not invisible and it is important to support our youth. They are our future and not supporting them is like giving up on future. Stop the madnees!!

5 Jun 2006 - 23:39    Martha Cooper : I believe that this action is unconscienable in regard to the needs and rights of deaf/hard of hearing students. This is regression and not progress. It also was wrong and disrespectfuo of the CEO not to show. This kind of action must be stopped.

5 Jun 2006 - 23:45    Bob Radtke, Jr. : My son has a 4.5 GPA at Whitney Young Magnet HS. This WOULD NOT have been possible without the interpreters and the incredible deaf services he received the past 16 years!! (from 1 1/2 years old to now.) 183 6 Jun 2006 - 0:07    Nancy C. Grant : I support this petition because everyone needs support at some point in their lives. People who are deaf and people with disabilities are in a much better position to support themselves and others if they receive an equitable education. Give them the solid education they are asking for; give them a chance. Don't take a step backward on their civil rights.
6 Jun 2006 - 0:11    Lin Shook Schalek : I wonder how those who are against this would feel if they or a loved one was disabled. No one should ever receive less than what they need in order to become a successful and fullfilled human being!
6 Jun 2006 - 0:14    Scott Morrison : beacuse I went through the CPS system as a mainstreamed youth in the late 60's without any interpreting services at all. The year is 2006 and it is unreal the Deaf/HH still have to deal with the people running the school system that have no regard for those with disabilities. Has this changed since I was a youth? Apparently very little.. What a sad plight for Chicago, our Deaf HH youth and the educators that are facing the loss of their jobs. Fight on everyone!
6 Jun 2006 - 0:21    Mark Olson :
6 Jun 2006 - 0:27    Patti Thomas : I support this petition.
6 Jun 2006 - 0:38    Don Delgade : Please support this petition as our disabled youth deserve the best education we can possible give them.

6 Jun 2006 - 0:53    Cozy Davis : I've learned a lot wroking around para professionals and Special Education programs need help, not cuts.
6 Jun 2006 - 1:07    Nicole Pavlatos, M.D. : I am a physician who sees first hand the consequenses of relagating a whole community to substandard citizinship. Deaf patients routinely get worse care because medical staff do not do what it takes to ensure good communication. It shouldn't happen in medicine, and it shouldn't happen in education.
6 Jun 2006 - 1:23    Jorie Kirshenbaum : I support this petition because all children have a right to an equal education in this country and we should never stop fighting until that right is fully realized.
6 Jun 2006 - 1:26    KELLY BUCKLAND : I support this petition because everyone deserves an equal education
6 Jun 2006 - 1:39    Cinderella Branch :
6 Jun 2006 - 1:40    Anne Nalepa : I support this petition because to be aware of it and do nothing is simply not right. Everyone deserves quality education. Students who are deaf and hard of hearing should be able to learn what they needed a way that suits them. Anything less than that is illegal. It saddens me to see that the head of special education in Chicago couldn't even bother to meet with these students. What could be more pressing than ensuring that special education achieves its purpose?
6 Jun 2006 - 1:51    caitlin parton : As a deaf student who has experienced first hand the effects of cutbacks of teachers of the deaf and other support systems in a different school system, this cutback is appalling to me.
6 Jun 2006 - 2:24    Beverly Baum-Stone : As a former teacher of the deaf I know how very important it is for students to have sufficient services so they can become independent and successful.
