9 Jun 2006 - 3:19    Tom Wilson : Let's support good education for all students with disabilities.
9 Jun 2006 - 6:24    Vivian Cardona : The Chicago Public School Board had already made cuts in the program this past year. This made the Deaf program suffer, doing so again will make the students get less education and more difficulty in acheiving their individualized needs. I urge the Board to reconsider those cuts, especially for the deaf children.
9 Jun 2006 - 11:24    Jan Weeks RD LD :
9 Jun 2006 - 12:44    Omoladun Tyehimba :

9 Jun 2006 - 21:29    Joanna : Why is it necessary to cut services for children with disabilities? It does not comply with "No Child Left Behind" nor IDEA. Chicago needs to investigate how they can better spend their money for children than on bureaucrats. The next generation will suffer because of the older generation refusing to consider their future. Everyone is a part of this at all levels.
9 Jun 2006 - 21:42    Don Albrecht :
9 Jun 2006 - 21:53    Carol Nemecek-Kowalski :

10 Jun 2006 - 1:15    Cristina Ramirez :
10 Jun 2006 - 1:30    Darlene E. McClendon : Providing aides for students with special needs as written in the IEP is the law. It cannot be an arbitrary decision based on dollars. CPS, Do the Right Thing!!!!
10 Jun 2006 - 1:40    Wanda Dabkoska : all students deserve equal education!
10 Jun 2006 - 1:50    BD : I believe in the importance of education for ALL children, not those deemed important by the school board's budget.
10 Jun 2006 - 2:02    Julia Apaloo :
10 Jun 2006 - 2:40    Althea Karwowski : Public School funding over all should be increased, and without question for students who are already underserved. Cutting education funds is a tactic used to create/maintain a poverty class and protect the privilege of a white elite.
10 Jun 2006 - 2:51    Michael K. Berger :
10 Jun 2006 - 3:21    Alexis : making cuts in funding for education is a shortsighted way to balance a budget. ignorance is far more costly than education.
10 Jun 2006 - 6:25    mollie dowling : people with disabilities deserve equal rights and equal education! Taking it away is a human rights violation.
10 Jun 2006 - 6:29    Ed : CPS must continue special education, otherwise family with special needs student will migrate to burbs or other state, loss of tax would occur. NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND, including SPECIAL NEEDS STUDENTS!
10 Jun 2006 - 6:30    Phillip Weaver :
10 Jun 2006 - 8:19    Michael Herschberg : So many laws provide students rights to an equal education. CPS needs to provide these students with the services they need. Maybe Mr. Duncan and Mr. Scott will understand how wrong this is when a friend, family member, or they themselves suddenly need some kind of supportive service and they are told "sorry, we don't have the money!"
10 Jun 2006 - 19:56    Suzi Herrmann M.Ed. : It is absolutely crucial to our students with special needs to be HEARD and given every opportunity to succeed! My DEAF students have blossomed this year with the focused attention I could give to them. Because there are only three in my class, my program will be closed! Last year, my program for student who are DEAF and/or EBD/Cog.was summarily closed. These students were sent elsewhere for the convenience of the CPS without regard to individual student's needs. I am a person with physical disabilities and there is an inordinate amount of NON-COMPLIANCE under the ADA mandates!
10 Jun 2006 - 20:16    Sarah Hoagland :
10 Jun 2006 - 20:44    Darryl A. Bender : I support this petition because providing aides for students with special needs as written in the IEP is the law. It cannot be an arbitrary decision based on dollars. CPS,Do the Right Thing. Take care of our children!!!!
10 Jun 2006 - 22:35    Sharon Lamp : denying equal education to students with disabilities today will result in the denial of equal opportunities for youth and adults with disabilities in the future. CPS, do the right thing. Make Chicago a leader, not a follower. Break the cycle of discrimination towards people with disabilities in 21st century Chicago.
10 Jun 2006 - 23:06    K. Werner : I support this petition because I support this petition because every studentdeserves an opportunity to have an education, withor without disabilities.

11 Jun 2006 - 2:14    Pamela Molina : I'm international Student in Disability Studies, from Chile and it is really sadly to know that here happen things like this!!. I'm deaf person and by my experience in Chile I know we need support and respect of our language and culture.. Special Ed must go forward with the best support to make sure the development of our deaf children!!
11 Jun 2006 - 5:02    Darrell Price :
11 Jun 2006 - 5:16    Nina Slota : I support this petition because inclusion can only work if the staff exists and knows how to work together for the benefit of the students. Cutting jobs and calling it "inclusion" is actually a step backwards to what existed in schools before 1975. It is 2006, IDEA and NCLB state that no child should be left behind and that kids are entitled to a Free Appropriate Public Education. These cuts will not allow children to receive the appropriate education they need.
11 Jun 2006 - 6:29    Rajiv J. Root : because that is what I have been going through in public schools in Fairfield, CT and they do not listen to me. I am deaf and quadriplegic.
11 Jun 2006 - 8:02    Blanche Suggs : This country was build on equal rights for all there are many disabilities in people that are obvious and those that are not so obvious. When an adminstration deny a child education whether able or disable. This makes the adminstration as disabled. Not having the capablites or compassion to fight for the ones who cannot fight for themselves , what ever happen to LEAVE NO CHILD BEHIND ! or does this statement benefit only those who are in the good graces of society.Recently, a student with a disabilites graduated blind with honors in the feild of Science another example of supportive education.
11 Jun 2006 - 9:41    Linda Kiselevitz : what happened to "No Child left Behind"- when my child needed special services because of a hearing impairment the staff was there to help her all the way through high school. You can't pull the services now-these students need help now !!!!

Most of our board are adults with disabilities and we have had youth both non-disabled and disabled on our board.
