We the undersigned hereby petition the Government of Queensland and the Brisbane City Council to stop the proposed Multiplex 'development' of Brisbane CBD's North Bank, in its current form.

While we do not oppose developing the area, we hold the view that the development, as it stands, will:

1) Damage or destroy iconic mangroves in the area and attendant wildlife, harming the character of our city and one of its facets of unique beauty.

2) Obscure historic buildings in the CBD, again harming the character of our city.

3) Narrow the river by 70m, potentially irreversibly damaging the area.

4) Create a flood risk, as the the proposed construction will literally be built on the river.

5) Inconvenience and disrupt users of public transport, cyclists and pedestrians during several years of construction.

6) Create a ready-made warren of near standing buildings for criminals and other unsavoury elements.

We implore the State government and the city council to recognise that our river does not belong to Multiplex, and urge them to engage in a genuine process of consultation with the public, especially those who frequent and enjoy the area.

We also convey our intention to refuse to vote for any party that supports the proposed construction.
