What respected religion 1) forces its believers into debt and claim to detach them from the burdens of the "material universe" 2) counters criticism against itself by flaming and 3) appeals to the First Amendment to practice freedom of religion and denies the same law allowing freedom of speech by attempts to censor criticism ... among a plethora of other items? Again, it is about time people woke up and asked questions.

I have had some interaction with Scientology, and it is a CULT, not a religion. Last time I checked, a religion lets its member receive its info for FREE. Scientology requires their people to pay along the way to finally get the main info on the religion. Which is usually $30,000. They resemble the mafia in so many ways it is scary.
I've read up on Scientology and I agree with people about it pretty out there. Plus as a Christian I don't put much trust in this self-power stuff I believe we should rely on God to solve our problems. Plus I think an organization first of all that was founded by a Science Fiction writer isn't something to take as a gospel truth. Also this having to pay money in order to benefit from it is seriously wack. So yeah I hope that can have this tax exemption removed.
This is the most rediculous thing I have ever heard of. I have avoided the subject for years, hoping that it wouldn't become the poison that is now has, and all I see is escalating terror. Tom Cruise in paticular is going on a campaign to "endorse" this "religion", and by doing so, he attempts to destroy psychiatry in order to convert those who become deperate. How sick is that? This is NOT a church. It's merely a way of deconstructing the human mind, spirit, and soul, then refilling it with twisted values and mindsets. In one of the other posts, someone mentioned how cults often end in mass suicide. Cruise's "crusade" for Scientology though not overtly present, just may be creating such a nightmare. Tempting psychiatric patients to stop taking their medications in many cases can and will lead them in a downward spiral that ends in a self inflicted death.
Any "religion" that promotes religious tolerance should know that it applies to ALL religions. You should NOT have to pay any sort of money to recieve any sort of "teachings".

Scientology is nothing but a cult. Why in the world is this considered a religion. Yes, organized religion is subjective but the one thing Buddhism, Islam and Christianity, etc have in common is that everything is up front. You don't have to pay thousands of dollars to "Benefit" from their teachings and to get whatever information comes next. Religions should put every aspect of their teachings and information out there for all to consume and benefit. This cult doesn't. They milk you out of your hard earned dollars and only after you've coughed up over a hundred thousand dollars to you get the "truth." There is something inherently wrong in a system where matters of faith are only taught when one is willing to pay to get that information. Donations are fine and I have no problem but paying to receive matters of faith and spirituality and be called a religion to get all the tax benefits that come with it is wrong. When actual religions are suffering in these poor economic times and this group is making millions each year and not having to pay taxes is wrong.

Scientology is a harmful scam. I have a friend who has recently been affected by it and he is a brainwashed zombie, and they have taken his bank account info and money, as well as his social security number. Its a cult.
