As a Police Officer in New York, I remember the Church of Scientology had sent volunteers a the WTC site. Although they were nice, I found them to be a bit creepy. From all of my research, I have found that this "church" is really a money makeing criminal organization.

Actually, if you believe Merriam Webster, all churches are cults on some level:Cult= "a system of religious beliefs and ritual; also : its body of adherents". Let's remove the tax exempt status of any church or cult who fails to donate at least 50% of the money they take in, to commonly recognized charitable activities/causes. Why single just one out because we don't agree with their dogma?

Scientology leads people to believe that their emotional baggage can be erased and their happiness improved by partaking in prescribed scientology classes that happen to cost a great deal of money over time. The methods are not proven and have led to a percentage of participants to wake up and realize that they have wasted a long period of their lives and a lot of money devoting themselves to an unproven methodology created by a charlatan. Members are manipulated via hypnosis and phsychological tactcs that reduce critical thinking ability. Many members end up being separated from their family and friends due to these tactics. All religions do not REQUIRE investment, they only ask for donations. The phsychological manipulation, the high investment of time and money required, the unproven and often dangerous methodologies, and the history of L.Ron Hubbard's life as a penniless science fiction writer wraught with cult membership and consistent money-making failures and lies to cover them- all point to Scientology being one great scam that may give temporary relief to the weak minded, but can inflict great harm if devoted membership is continued.
Stick to the commandments. Keep it simple. Rich get richer by falsifying the written existing history. Give me an archaeologist to prove this as a religion and then I'll say they can stop being tax exempt.

Belinda, since when does "religion" have ANYTHING to do with medicine? I take an anti-depression drug (prescribed by my GP, not a psych), which has saved my life. I am frankly quite amazed that some here think that scientologists are against ALL drugs, where exactly is that information coming from? Scientologists are against MIND ALTERING drugs, ones that change the receptors in the brain and shrink the brain 20%. That is it. I've seen posts where people state that scientology is a mindless cult. I would think that a religion who wants everybody 'mindlesswould advocate mind altering drugs, after all, that is the cheapest, quickest method of turning people into 'zombies'. But tell me please, what is wrong with a Religion that expects their congregation to make up for everything they did wrong, never abandon a friend in need, EVER, wants people to not be put on harmful drugs in essence being able to make clear minded choices and it is in their code of honor to always help others in need. What is so wrong about that? Another big misconception is that scientologists pay all their money to the church, this is far far from true. Scientologists have regular church and can pay extra if they want advanced classes.
