I am appaled that a science fiction club can be tax exempt. Next thing you know you will be able to have tax empt status for hosting star trek conventions at your house
Scientology is just that...the study of Science. It's not a religion...its a lifestyle. Would the government let my genealogy related business be tax free?
Scientology is ****ing hilarious. There is a franchise near me and whenever I walk by I have to point and laugh! I think anyone stupid enough to believe in this crap should get burned but this company it's self should receive no benefits. The stars are just so insecure that they make easy targets. HA! Fucktards!
The "church" and its members can be as eclectic as they like, they can believe whatever they want, they can promote it and take unsuspecting peoples' money if they willingly give it to the organization. Under NO circumstances shoudl they be given a tax break for operating under the misnomer "church". Now they are in essence taking money from every American taxpayer, and that is NOT right.
No,
they should not be enjoying
tax free status, and I think it is a cult and have thought so for years, And Tom cruise is showing how nuts and hateful these "religious people"can be.
If Scientology can do it, why can’t I? I need to get the latest copy of Rolling Stone, send in my $20 and become a “preacher” and then declare that I am the one true conduit to the Omnipotent Power Controller and should not owe the IRS any more money. By the way, make tax deductible donations to me or you will never gain enlightenment.
Another signer said, "Any organization that requires a portion of your income is clearly a made-for-profit business!!!" Yes, I agree. The Mormon Church, the Jewish faith, and most Christian faiths also encourage a 10% tithe. ALL religions are cults. If you believe, you can pray at home. You don't need anyone to tell you how to live and be a good person. It's common sense!
Having been educated in medicine and doing psychiatric research, I think this "religion" fraudulent and misleading, and what's more, is not even remotely couched in hard science.
ALL religions are cults, and NONE should have any tax exempt status at all. Scientology is just one of the more egregious examples of ignorant, gullible people being taken advantage of and having their money extracted by charlatans.
This cult needs to be stopped. It's based on a man who wrote science fiction for a living (badly I might add) and who is quoted many times stating the fastest way to become a millionaire is to start your own religion. It's a farce, scam and every other word I can think of.
One would think that the United States Government wouldn't have to think twice about tax exempt status after Mary Sue Hubbard's incident with the Federal government.
The church of Scientology has absolutely nothing to do with religion. I've been to one of their "churches", which was actually a leased portion of a mini-mall and taken their personality profile quiz. The representative then used it to analyze me and told me all the things wrong with me and how "Scientology" can help me, for a fee and a portion of my gross income. There was no mention of worship, or of a creator or high power of any kind. They are a for-profit business plain and simple and all businesses in the USA pay taxes.
Yeah, Scientology must be stopped. As a proponent of psychology and modern medical science (as opposed to science fiction) I cannot insist more that this cult be stopped in any way possible!
