Let's see... If L. Ron Hubbard said "if a man really wants to make money, he should start a religion" and then proceeded to start a "religion" hmmmmm? No tax exempt status for Scientology, please.

Ronny is right.Treatment may help these very odd and sad people. The only tax relief then payable is on health insurance.Scientology is a psychiatric condition, akin to a delusional disorder
As a matter of public policy, any organization that uses the tactics used by the CoS should not be sheltered from taxation. You might as well have granted the Manson family the same protection. I know that it's up to Congress to change the Code and I am writing to my elected representatives in the House and Senate.

L. Ron Hubbard couldn't possibly care about anyone but himself. How else could he use people who are confused/misguided about religion to further his own aims to not only make himself rich, but also to make himself famous. He failed as a scientist and has applied those twisted and rejected views he had into a religion so that he can say that it's a matter of faith when people, rightfully, question it.
