It is an affront and an outrage that a governmental agency whose costs and salaries are paid by U.S. taxpayers would ever allow a cult and a pyramid scheme such as the Church of Scientology to exploit a tax-exempt status. The CoS is neither a church nor is it an educational institution.
The poorest of Americans become victims of the I.R.S. every April 15 because that agency refuses to go after the wealthiest, and therefore the most 'connected', of tax cheats. Now, we've been forced to add the Scientologists to that privileged group of cheats.

I support this petition. I don't remember Jim Jones having a tax exempt status. Scientology is a cult plain and simple. I live in Clearwater and see it first hand, its quite disturbing that the government gave a tax exempt status to a group of Cultists!!
I support this petition. I feel that any "religion" that requires people to constantly pay for the privilege of belonging should be taxed. Churches are supposed to be "non-profit organizations," freely offering their services. They are not supposed to be moneymaking machines. If individuals are personally profiting to the degree that the higher-ups in Scientology are profiting, then they are not "non-profit," and should thus be taxed on the profits they make. You can't stop people from squandering their money on this kind of thing, but you can make it more difficult for the scammers to turn themselves into billionaires.
