Finning is the inhumane practice of hacking off the shark's fins and throwing its still living body back into the sea.
These sharks either starve to death, get eaten by other fish, or drown (if they are not in constant movement their gills cannot extract oxygen from the water)
100 million sharks are killed annually just for their fins alone.
Shark fins are being harvested in ever greater numbers to feed the growing demand for shark fin soup, an Asian "delicacy".
This is pushing many species to the brink of extinction.

This practice of shark finning is unbelievable horrific! My 9 year old daughter covered this topic for her Science Fair project. I was so proud of her. We watched hidden video footage of the shark finning and it was depressing. The shark population of the world has declined over 93% in the Atlantic Ocean in 30 years....please reduce/control/self-enforce to curb the appetite for this brutal dish!
