It may seem more efficient to some psychiatrists to, in effect, scramble people's memories in order to achieve temporary relief for sufferers of depression and anxiety; effecting a temporary amnesia, but I think it serves to also erase the trail of undiscovered perpetrators of physical & sexual abuse and extreme neglect than it is efficacious for victims of such inhuman treatment as those.
