Thousands of horses each year are slaughtered for human consumption, in Europe, Mexico, and Japan. There are only two slaughter houses left in the United States, both are in Dallas Texas. When you decide that a horse needs to be put down for any reason, vetrinarians treat a horse very gently, they inject something in their veins, and always make sure that they are pain-free. There is no rush. But in slaughter houses its about speed, opposed to keeping the horse calm and pain-free. The rides to the slaughter house are just enough to kill a horse, they are driven for days without food, water, or rest. And sometimes fights break out between the horses. In the holding pen where the horses are held before they are killed, they are stuffed together, wild stallions packed in there with mares and foles, and the ceilings are too low so the horses can't even stand up right. While the horses are suppposed to be unconscious before they are shackled, hoisted, and then finally have their throat slit, but there have been reported cases where the horses were still consious. Horses are pets and friends to many people all over the world, it would be like making your dog suffer and then eat him. Cats and dogs get humaine rights why shouldn't horses?
