The purpose of this petition is to convince Verizon Wireless to allow users to either choose a mandatory data plan or a mandatory data block on their new PDA's and Smartphones. Verizon's current decision to remove this choice is not only a bad precedent by what is now the largest wireless provider in the United States, but also very poor customer service.

I support this petition. Shouldn\'t have to get data if we don\'t want it. Yes, you can enjoy a smart phone without it.

I support this petition. Because what is the point of having a wifi connection if you are never going to use it????

I support this petition. I wanted to upgrade to a phone that doesn\'t even require a data plan for what I would be using it. This means Verizon would be making me pay for something I don\'t need or want, on a device that is not even particularly geared for the applicable functions. This is absurd, and a truly outrageous and unscrupulous attempt at pulling the wool over our eyes and robbing us blind. Verizon may be big, but they do not have complete control of the market, nor will monopoly laws ever allow them to. If they think the invisible hand of competition will not leave them in the dust for ignoring the consumer\'s desire for choice, their management is in for a painful lesson in how easy it is to run even the most powerful of corporations into the ground.

I support this petition. And I hate Verizon Wireless for this... I don\'t have the kind of money to pay for a Data Plan. But I would really like a smart phone... Anyways I support again...

I support this petition. WiFi enabled phones make mandatory data plans a redundancy for a sizable demographic of users, myself included. I have since taken my business elsewhere after discovering this underhanded practice. Too bad, because they do operate a good voice network. In my mind this is product tying, Microsoft got taken to court over Internet Explorer being tightly packaged with the Windows OS, and IE was -FREE-. The data plan being so tightly bundled to the phone purchase is in the same vein, but here we\'re talking about $720 over a 2 year contract. This is much more tangible in terms of monetary impact and should be stopped.
