Although a remake with all the new special effects and now aloud blood and gore apeals to me, the warriors just would not be the same. The warriors is a classic outlook at how gangs were once run. (with a little bit of class) The origanal is fine the way it is and if tsomeone really wants to make a remake that bad then change the story a little and give it a new name. I have witnessed far too many excellent films who went out this way.. The one which comes to mind now is Dawn of the Dead. While the remake was alright, it wasn't up to Romero standards.

I am a new founded fan of the orignal "The Warriors" movie. I was introduced to it when my mother picked it up from the rental store (netflix) because she was a fan during her teen years. When I viewed the flick the first time, I fell in love. Not because it was cutting edge technology or that the actors were top-notch A-list actors of this era, but because the story is true and brutal, straight-forward, and already entertaining. This is one of the best movies I've seen in my short lived life. Usually remakes only hide the true essence the original achieved with silly eye-catching animations and meaningless pop culture referrences. Please do not make a remake of a perfect cult classic. Nothing is wrong with the orignal and the DVD release has already captivated more audiences, me being one of them. A remake would just put a damper on the story and completely ruin the feeling the orginal "Warriors" movie gave its audience.
I support this petition. First off, the LA gangs have already been exploited enough with movies like "Colors" and "Blood in Blood" out, as well as other countless ghetto movies. We don't need a bonafide classic to be butchered into a ghetto cliche. If you're going to remake The Warriors, do it right. Do it in New York, do it in the same style as the gangs in the original film, and don't make it a glorification of the actual situation of gangs. What endeared us to the Warriors was the slight surrealism of the gangs. I mean, who would actually come up with a gang like the "Baseball Furies"? And that's what made the movie fantastic. It wasn't a CNN report on the gangs of New York, it was a real-time fantasy that took you from the Bronx to Brooklyn by way of Manhattan. That's what made "The Warriors" a special movie to me, and I'll be damned if MTV perverts that. Spread the word.
