I do a lot of business on eBay and if they won't allow us the freedom as homeschoolers to sell our resouces, I'm sure we'll find another venue that will.
Ebay's reasoning for canceling antiquarian book auctions is unreasonable. How is a student going to cheat on a present-day test by using an ANTIQUE book? Besides, I have found (I am a retired teacher) that if a student wants to cheat, he/she will find a way NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO!! They fit in the category of "I want something, but I don't want to work for it". Thanks....usedtateach
The beauty of homeschooling is that parents have one-on-one supervision of their kids. I believe it is the parents' responsibility to know if their kids are cheating, and not ebay's. In reality, ebay cannot control what kind of person may be buying ANY given product in order to misuse it. Unlike public schools, homeschooling parents must pay for everything. It has been a blessing to be able to buy used materials on ebay, especially the teacher's editions that help me teach better. I respectfully request that ebay reconsider their stand on this issue.
If a child wants to cheat, he/she will find a way. Not selling teacher's editions on ebay won't change that. It is the teacher/parent's responsibility to hold children accountable. Those books are vital to a homeschool parent. Ebay isn't in the business of censure or decision-making for children.
We are a homeschooling family and teacher editions are a must for us. Please allow teacher editions to be sold. Many teacher editions have separate packages of tests with answers. Students who want to cheat are cheating themselves. Don't penalize homeschoolers because of cheaters.
I support this petition because this is supposed to be a free country. More and more there are special interest groups who spend money or throw their political weight around to get what they want. It benefits no one. We are losing our rights slowly but surely. The parents of these cheating kids should watch them more closely. Better yet, maybe the teachers need to get a little more creative with their tests. First the higher selling fees, now this. I'm disgusted.
I respectfully ask that you reconsider your position. While I understand your direction, it unnecessarily penalizes the majority - not the minority. Please seek another way to resolved this issue. Thank you.
Home schooling curriculum is not the same as that used by public schools. Even if a child using this same material should happen to purchase a teacher's manual, the parent would know it as soon as the material arrived at the door.
Why?
Because we are HOME SCHOOLING!!!...We are HOME! WITH OUR CHILDREN! We know what our kids are doing!
Not only that, but E-Bay should know the age of the person ordering the material. It would be hoped that E-Bay monitors that...
Because realistically, the public schools are not selling their materials on eBay. It is the home educators who are doing the buying and selling. Considering the fact that most of the materials that homeschoolers use are NOT used in public schools, is it reasonable to be concerned that a buyer is a cheating student? It's time to think about this with some common sense. Please reconsider this policy, and allow us to buy/sell on eBay the materials that we need to educate our children.
Please allow the sale of teacher editions again. As a homeschooling mom I know how important those are to prepare a gret education. Please don't take that opportunity away from us.
Thank you fro reading this message.
Why should the POSSIBILITY of a handful of dishonest students, deprive the rest of us who are homeschoolers the opportunities we need to buy/sell used curricula?
I am in favor of this petition because teacher editions are a valuable resource and often necessity for homeschooling parents. For the millions of homeschoolers across this country, I ask Ebay to reconsider their stance on this matter.
because there is a need as a homeschool parent of 4 I need another way to find eduacational materials including the teacher manuals. Most of what we use as homeschoolers do not even relate to the public schooled child and even if it did then e-bay should be aware already as to the age of the person purchasing items on thier site. Homeschoolers make up a great deal of e-baying, not just for eduacational materials, I would hate to see E-bay loose that group of buyers/sellers
I believe that it is not E-bay's responsibility to police the intent of persons purchasing teaching materials. Most people buying/selling these texts ar home schoolers. Please do not punish the majority for the mistakes of the few ill intended youths.
I support this petition because the pre-existing regulations within ebay that restrict bidders under 18 and publishers are able to partner with ebay through VERO to monitor unlawful sales of items that should not be posted.
Two common sense reasons: 1) the clear majority of Teacher Manuals for sale are FOR HOME SCHOOLERS!! Teachers use differing curriculi AND students could not even AFFORD the teacher's manuals!! 2) ebay cannot begin to monitor end of use sales (that is to say purpose of purchase). What about knives? Guns? Autos? Other books of undignified matters?
I believe that acording to ebay's statement we are NOT violating the policy. "Teacher’s editions of textbooks and solutions manuals that are intended solely for use by teachers are not permitted by eBay."
The companies we have listed do not sell solely to teachers but rather I bought these books from them as a parent. If they have no problem selling them to me, ebay should have no problem letting me sell them.
I homeschooled my daughter for six years and she graduated this year. I had a teacher edition for every subject she had that came with her curriculum. If I can order it from all of the different publishers and book stores, it is discriminating for ebay to not sell the books. I will boycott ebay until it changes its policy.
I support this petition. This new policy makes no sense, and it only hurts us educators.
Just out of curiosity I did a search for porno on ebay, and I found plenty of disturbing things that a "student" could buy. Why doesn't ebay have a policy about selling that sort of content?
I plan to boycott ebay until they make some changes.
I would have hoped a monter site such as ebay would be more supportive to it's clients that support them. Are you aware of how utterly frightening the State run schools are? If I wasn't a single parent & could afford to stay home & educate my kids, I would have. I can tell you horror stories all day long about the public school system. Shame on you for not supporting those people that are taking the time to do what they think is best for their children!
I am confused as to why it is that ebay feels that it needs to neglect the needs of so many of its supporters. Homeschoolers and Grade Teachers alike are all being hurt by this. I am sure though that if this policy remains the homeschooling community will pass along the word and it will result in all of us finding a different way in which to sell and purchase materials for the coming years and well, that will only leave Ebay with a large amount of supporters suddenly missing now won't it?
I am a homeschooling Mom and rely on the availability of Teacher's editions through Ebay, because it is unrealistic for me to buy the 20+ student editions required to receive a Teacher's Edition from a publisher.
It's time for ebay tobe responsible for being 18 years old to sell or Buy on eBay.I'm a Grandma and my daughter homeschools my grandchildren and sells on eBay to pass the savings to other ebay home school Moms & Dads. Vote YES for this petition! Thanks
This eBay policy is unfair to homeschoolers, and it is impossible to enforce. I have bought and sold curriculum including teacher's editions in the past, and look forward to the time when eBay will again allow the buying/selling of these legitimate teaching materials.
because it makes no sense. Who thought up this new restriction to home schooling parents rights? Who decided to be book sherrif anyway? What gives E Bay the legal right to interfere with home schooling? Who doesn't want us to give our kids a GOOD education? Is the sponsor of this restriction a NEA member? This makes my blood boil.
If your selling or buying on eBay you are suppose to be 18, and I don't imagine a college student would be buying k-12 curriculum. Not to mention that most Home School curriculum is not interchangeable with public school texts and is readily available on the open market.
It saddens me that eBay is instituting policy that adversely effects the little people (small time sellers and part time buyers) that greatly contributed to the massive growth they now enjoy!
Having sold my homeschool materials in the past on Ebay as well as buying some, I know that this puts a hardship on other homeschoolers. Please reconsider this rule on your site.
If someone is going to cheat, they will find away. This policy unfairly discriminates against homeschoolers. This also prevents teachers in other school setting from acquiring materials of interest to them which might greatly add to their curriculum. RIDICULOUS POLICY!!!
This is a very discriminatory policy. The reason I joined eBay was to get our next year's books with as little expense as possible. If eBay keeps this policy in effect, I will boycott eBay and will pass this on to all my Homeschooling friends and we will support someone else who does not discriminate against the teaching method that schooled many of our founding fathers. Money talks eBay-start listening.
As a homeschooling Mom I support this petition whole-heartedly. Teacher editions are an absolute necessity to the homeschooling family. It is ebays policy that a person must be 18 years old to buy, so ebays policy is contradictory. Why should honest homeschooling families be punished for a few dishonest kids? Ebay should be focusing on solving the problem of illegal purchases done by minors rather than focusing on honest purchases made by thousands of homeschooling families.
I support this petition because ebay's policy is absurd. Why punish a large group of honest ebay supporters for a few rotten apples. Wouldn't it be wiser to offer a user ID requireing the buyer to be at least 18?
I homschool my children and sell an buy material of this nature yearly. These books are free to purchase on the open market and I can't see why you feel it necessary to block this item. When you have four children of various ages it is a money saver to be able to purchase someone elses curriculum at a discounted price. I and all of the other home schooled parents would like you to re-consider this rule.
I support this petition as both a homeschooling mom and an ebay seller. Teacher editions are necessary for us to use at home and this policy directly discriminates against homeschoolers. Even large curriculum publishers will sell teacher boos to homeschoolers with proper documentation and it doesn't require a teaching certificate. If ebay has a policy that members must be 18 then this policy is contradictory to their own rules. Students can't purchase them because they are too young to be members of ebay. It is also beneficial to be able to sell package deals with both student and teacher books in a set. This helps homeschoolers purchasing the material to be sure they are using the program correctly. And, of course, as a homeschooler, selling curriculum when I'm through with it is necessary to be able to purchase materials for coming years. Come on, ebay! You don't require those buying a fishing rod to produce a fishing license. Please, ebay, change this ridiculous policy and stop discriminating against homeschoolers! Selling teacher editions is NOT illegal and should be permitted on ebay!
ebay's policy needs to change or they will loose the business of the homeschool community. The resale of Teacher's Editions is in the best interest of all homeschooled students. They can sell pornography on ebay with out any trouble. Ebay's policy for getting a user ID is that you need to be 18 years old. It should not be ebay's responsibility to make sure that a child is not cheating. That is the parents responsibility.
I support this petition because it is discriminatory to homeschoolers. The publishers themselves sell to anyone. It is not eBay's job to make sure kids don't cheat. They are punishing a lot of decent, honest, hardworking people for the sake of a few that might cheat.
This is a ridiculous ruling. Perhaps they should ban the sale of PDAs and cell phones as kids are using them to cheat on tests, too. A book is a book, and should be able to be sold.
Homeschooling supplies are available retail to the public for anyone to purchase, including all teacher editions. If the publishers have no issues, why should ebay? The purchasing age policy alone should be all ebay needs.
It is ridiculous to say that someone without a teaching degree is unable to use a teaching guide. Also the enforcement of this is arbitrary at best. eBay sells firearms and fishing equipment are the SURE that those buying have the necessary liscense to use??? This also penalizes teacher's with certificates (who often are forced to spend their own money to buy classroom supplies.
Ebay has the right to join the NEA in it's war against children who attend homeschool. This alliance was a poor business decision by Ebay, and will cost them millions as customers move to other auction sites, for which there are many.
