I support this petition. I just recently opened an eBay store (three days ago), and was not aware of this. This greatly affects not only how I wish to seek additional income, but also how we buy for our own homeschool. Very disappointed in ebay!
Ebay is the best means to purchase curriculum materials not only for homeschool parents, but also for public school teachers who purchase their own curriculum materials that the districts cannot afford to buy for the classrooms.
I am a public school teacher and would not mind at all if one of my teacher editions gets to the public. I create my own tests and worksheets... very rarely do I use the actually teacher book for these. I do use accompanying text software, but these days the test banks are so huge, it wouldn't matter if someone got a hold of them. Perhaps the students might even learn more if they have the correct answers given to them and they than can be sure that the process they used to get the answer was correct. There are also so many texts, editions of the same texts, levels of the same texts, even regional versions that it would be tough to keep up withwhich school uses which text, so why bother? PS- I also go into the local used bookstores, Salvatiton Army, yard sales , etc.. and see teacher editions for sale all of the time. Why not E-bay?
This policy does a disservice to everyone by prohibiting the free trade of used and unneeded materials. Knowledge is very precious. Ebay, by instituting this policy, is deterring educators - parents and teachers alike - from acquiring materials that would greatly assist in the education of our youth and it impacts homeschoolers and the struggling school districts the most. Again is all comes down to money, if anyone really wants a Teacher’s Edition, they can just buy it new, but for those of us who can’t afford to by it new this limits our availability to used or discarded books.
As a parent homeschooling 3 children I rely on purchasing all of my curriculum subject at one time. If the student edition is older is often not possible to buy a teacher's edition anywhere else but included in the auction. What else should I do with last year's curriculum?
Please include the teachers manuels in your HS curriculum. Many Hsing parents are on a tight budget. I have refered many people to ebay for HSing material. If you don't include the Teachers material... than I'll have to go elsewhere and do my auctions elsewhere too. You could potentially loose much business. Thank-you for listening to one family!
As a homeschooling Parent I rely on money from reselling curriculum, including Teacher's manuals, that I no longer need. I also need to be able to purchase such items a used prices.
As a homeschool mom I do use teachers manuals. It should NOT be ebay's concern to stop sellers and buyers from their transactions because someone may cheat. Students will always find ways to cheat if they want to. It is not Ebays place to determine how a book may be used.
I get ALL of my student and teacher edition home school books through e-bay - this is unfair, ebay is not the homeschooling police, nor should they judge, you are supposed to provide e-commerce and THAT IS ALL, what this will do is let the sellers put the student editions on ebay and have the purchaser buy direct through them...NOT VERY SMART!!!! - and way too judgemental, assumptive in my opinion
Homeschoolers purchase the majority of all schooling books from your site, not to mention many other items--do you want to lose our business and be known for being discriminatoring?
If you are going to ban homeschooling materials because of moral reasons then it seems to me that that should include all sexual items as well since you can not control who is buying that either.
Most of the TE texts Homeschoolers buy are texts no longer used in schools. If a Public School child wants to cheat he will even without a Teachers manual!!!
This is extremely unfair and a practice of control. Being a homeschool parent, I rely solely on eBay and other stores selling discounted books, in particular, teacher editions. If a student wants to cheat, they will find a way to do it, and the ultimate victim would be the student, not the teachers or eBay, etc. This should not be a “punishment” to those who truly need the teacher editions. I think this new policy was rash and poorly researched by eBay.
I support this petition because it is STUPID for Ebay to try and monitor it's user's behaviour regarding any legal material. That is what PARENTS are for!!!
As a homeschooling parent, I support this petition. I need these editions, and have counted on finding curriculums with these editions here on Ebay, in the past. I will be taking my business elsewhere, in the furture, if Ebay continues with this discriminatory policy against homeschoolers. A cheater, like a thief, will always find ways to cheat. Having a policy in place 'in case' a child purchases something to cheat with, is foolishness.
This policy makes little sense given the used book store/website market. Ebay should not limit such sales, as companies like Barnes & Nobel, abebooks.com, and Powells.com sell used teachers editions as well.
People who want to get their hands on materials to cheat will do it with or without Ebay. Don't make the many good members of the Ebay community suffer because of a few members who may not have integrity. This is an unfair punishment.
I am a homeschool parent with multiple children. The purchasing of used or new to me teaching material makes it easier for me to apply that extra to other classroom needs please realize that for every one student that might purchase a book...thousands are homeschoolers like myself. Please do not punish the whole in hopes of carching one who is committing fruad.
I will not use ebay as long as their policy discriminates against homeschoolers and refuses to recognize our legal status in every state in the country.
