As a homeschooler, I find this to be prejudicial. This will also make it more difficult for me as my child's teacher to find affordable, quality curriculum.
I am disappointed in Ebay.
Homeschoolers should have the right to purchase books they can afford. You sell all kinds of other stuff on your site. Students are going to cheat no matter what you do; they will find a way. You have just put a big obstacle in the face of people who want to provide legitimate educational experiences for their children.
As a homeschooling parent, I AM the teacher for my child. As I receive very little assistance in regards to the purchase of my son's materials, I often am looking for used teacher's texts to supplement our educational program.
I am a homeschool mom, whose auction was kicked off of we-bay because I stated it was a teacher text. This is not right. How else are we to teach are children properly. If we are not allowed access to these materials at a resonable price.
Homeschoolers depend on eBay to sell and buy literature. If they want to refer to Homeschooling TEs as Parent's Manuals, then that is fine but they are intended for parents and should be allowed on eBay.
You sell a number of items that I would consider harmful; however, teacher's editions of texts is not one of them! To restrict educational materials will only force home educators to go back to special websites to sell materials, from which ebay will NOT benefit.
It is unfair to deny the legitamate users of teacher's manuals the opportunity to purchase them on eBay just because an unscrupulous student may chose to cheat. By that criteria, nothing could be sold on eBay at all, as I'm sure that any product auctioned on any site could be used for ilicit purposes by the unscrupulous few, ruining the service for the honest many.
All of my grand-kids are home-schooled & are far above their peers in regular schools. I under-stand that some kids might try & order the teachers editions, but their parents need to better check what they're doing on the computer.
Your policy of not allowing teacher's manuals to be auctioned shows that eBay is prejudiced against the great number of homeschoolers who use your website for legitimate curriculum swapping.
Purchasing used teacher's editions on ebay has been a great boon to our family. Our budget is already stretched so thin. This has been the best way for us to get our materials. But this is more than an economic issue. The curriculum that I look for is geared specifically to the homeschool community and would not be much use to any in the public schools.
These resources should be available especially to home schoolers. If students want to cheat then the school systems need to find ways to not allow that, not by restricting the rest of the world from using the used teaching manuals.
As a buyer and seller of curriculum on eBay, I want to voice my opposition to your decision to prevent the sell of teacher's manuals. Usually the manuals are sold with the entire curriculum and are vital for homeschoolers. Please reconsider.
I am very unhappy to learn that eBay is not allowing legitimate homeschool teacher manuals to be sold. This is prejudiced, and I would like to see the policy changed.
Yours Truly,
Robin Davis
I am homeschooling a 7 yr. old and a 15 yr. old....I can't afford to buy new so I try every avenue I can to save money and shopping on ebay and other sites for used curriculum helps me do that.
Refraining from selling teachers manuals because they 'could' be used by a small number of people to cheat on tests is unreasonable. What about cell phones with camera features that 'could' be used to take pictures of tests, which is much more of a common way to cheat in high schools? Will you also ban those?
