I support you whole heartedly !!! If E-bay wishes to discriminate against Home Educating Parents then maybe this petition should be to completely shut them down for discriminating against us. It seems they are trying to find a reason to stop home school E-bay sales. I will no longer sale or buy from eBay as of now; unless things change. I have sold and bought all my educational items for our family from E-bay. Like most families my husband is the only one that can go out to earn a living for us. I can’t buy new curriculum with all the funds we must also pay just to live. It seems as though E-bay is on the governments side and trying to make it hard on all struggling homeschoolers in hopes that we will not be able to afford home schooling . Leaving us with no choice but to place our children back into the institution of the world. The reason listed above concerning why they will not allow Teachers Editions to be sold or bought with Curriculum is not a reason they can stop the sales or buys of Teachers books . E-bay knows they have a policy that you must be 18 years of age or older to trade.
If they are so concerned that someone younger than 18 could buy a teachers edition, then they better be even more concerned about all the other items they sale ! If a child will by a Teachers book, they will also buy other items on E-bay they have no business with having at all. What a law suit waiting to happen !!!! One more bit of info. A student could not cheat anyways because they are in school and supervised as they take test and such. Home Schoolers are under the supervision of their parents. E-bays reason is nothing more than discrimination !!! I am fighting to the core on this one !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am extremely disappointed in ebay's decision to enforce such a ridiculous policy. There are more important battles to fight-not with materials we depend on to teach our children. This will change my business decisions...I sell and buy a great deal from ebay but will take my business elsewhere.
Ebay even pulled an auction of mine for a curriculum guide that is only to plan, with no answers or solutions, so doesnt even make sense as to there reasoning. What would be the harm of the child knowing what pages to read and when! Their response was to just repeat the policy and not answer specific questions. I can take my business elsewhere if they don't want my money.
This policy is not fair to homeschoolers who sale and purchase through ebay!!! However even for the general public, it would be like taking an open book test!! Also if that person just wants to cheat, where will it get them in life? So does this have to do with books or morals? I homeschool and I dont hide my manuals or answer keys, I just teach Biblical principles and the children can decide to make the right choice! Whoever makes the policies, if you smoke pot will it make me high? Dont spoil it for everyone, because in your heart, if you could have gotten a manual when you were in school you would have cheated. DOESNT MEAN EVERYONE HAS THAT MIND SET! No disrespect intended, just wanted you to use your brain, its a homeschool thing (using your brain) you wouldnt understand:)!
I have used ebay for years to sell my old curriculum to buy my new curriculum, also from ebay. If I can't sell what I have already bought from ebay, I will likely not buy anything at all from ebay. Ebay has and will continue to loose customers and money because of this policy. I will find another place to list all of my curriculum, not only the TE's. As have others I know.
As homeschoolers, we don't receive government money to purchase any and all curriculum we desire as in a Charter School. E-bay is discriminating against homeschoolers with this policy. BTW--The homeschool movement is 10's of thousands strong and growing exponentially each year!!! You will be losing a HUGE group of buyers/sellers with this policy as another venue will open to the homeschool movement and we will all move our business to someone who wants to support those of us who school our children at home!!
This is a ridiculous policy. In the first place, eBay has another policy that you must be 18 or over to trade. If you're over 18, the only need you have for these books is legitimate. In addition, any of these books are available directly from the publishers. If they don't have a problem with homeschoolers purchashing the TEs, why is it eBay's job to decide we can't. Also, many of these books are for homeschooling only. How exactly would these aid in cheating? Add this in--not everything being removed is a TE. I have had homeschooling items removed that we not TEs, and not even remotely similar.
Ebay needs to stay out of trying to push and agenda and just take care of business. If you would spend you time chasing down people commiting fraud through your site instead of pushing a social agenda thinly disguized as an attempt at being morallay responsible, maybe you would be a more prosperous business and not slipping as you are now.
because I am a homeschooling mother and get much of my children's curriculum on eBay. Some of the materials we use are out of print, so eBay is my only source.
because this is an unwise policy. I have been an ebay buyer for at least 4 years , I will take my business somewhere that does not discriminate against homeschoolers, I am sorry to have to do that ,I have enjoyed ebay but this policy makes me wonder who is in control of ebay policies.
I support this petition. Since when does Ebay, a company that makes millions off of adult "toys" and videos, take the moral high ground? Foolishness to alienate an entire market (hsers) that spend tons of $$$ on ebay.
(from the Pres.of Ebay)"Today's Internet is an incredible open marketplace for goods, services, information and ideas. We can't give that up..."
Right,as long as it is does not involve a T.E. even if it is only for homeschooling.
This is discriminatory and I would bet teacher union$$ have something to do with it. Some of my teacher friends in local public schools buy books from Ebay because they cannot afford resources directly from the mfg.
So much for Ebay'$ "IT" campaign.
Since Ebay seems to ban anything that ANYONE complains about and there has always been someone to complain about everything, I wonder how long it will take Ebay to ban itself out of existence?
ALthough I do understand the concern about students who are attempting to cheat, I feel those people whould be the exception. More likely, the majority of the people bidding would be teachers in smaller, privately funded schools or parents who Homeschool. By banning this, e-bay has effectively cut off these people in their search for a more affordable product.
I support this petition because my rights as a homeschooling parent are being stepped on. After communicationg with ebay I was told that "eBay has made the
decision to prohibit the sale of Teacher's editions of textbooks and
solutions manuals that are intended solely for use by teachers or
parents." They added the "and parents" after I pointed out that certain curricula were not used in schools but in home education.
As a parent, I have a legal right to "Teach" my children at home. Does that not make me a teacher? So what state does "Ebay" live in?
Since when has there been a legal right to ban a "teachers edition". If this continues I will not purchase from Ebay. The only reason I started was to purchase homeschool materail for my children at an offerdable price. This policy is very unfair!
IT is absurd that you get to choose whether or not homeschoolers can purchase teacher's editions. We trust our children and how in the world could a child "sneak" a teacher's edition into the home? Really, this is just stupid.
I wonder if we could organize an effective boycott - I am sure homeschooler spend lots of $$ on ebay. If we refuse to use ebay for awhile they might realize it?
I am a home schooling parent and I can not afford to buy EVERYTHING new. If we can buy teacher editions else where then so can the "kids trying to cheat"
Because an EBayer must be 18 and therefore an adult, I do not support restricting the selling of Teacher Edition materials on the grounds that students are purchasing them to cheat.
As an Ebay store owner who has sold a lot of homsechool curriculi, I find this particular policy very shortsighted and limiting for the homeschool community who has until now found ebay to be a good and friendly source for affordable curriculum.
eBay: Don't be silly, if a student wants to "cheat", there are othr ways to buy teacher's manuals...lots of homeschool stores out there. I appreciate what you are trying to do, but even if a student gets all the answers they still must pass the tests! Please don't police this you are making it very difficult for us obtain the materials we need to do our jobs (teach our kids)!
This is a very ridiculous policy! I count on my used sales to help pay for my new books for the year since my taxes go to fund the public schools...and don't help me pay for homeschooling my kids.
This policy makes no sense, but it is clearly unfair to homeschoolers. Why are private educators being punished for an issue involving the public school system? Why remove all TEs across the board? Who is harmed by the selling of items published for homeschoolers? Ebay, you should be ashamed of this policy, it is an outright discrimination against an entire community.
