I am a homeschooling mom who has just begun homeschooling. Curriculum is very expensive to buy and one of the avenues other hs moms told to alleviate cost was ebay which you now have taken away.

This policy is really stupid. If a student consistently solves all the problem exactly like the book, I would hope a teacher is not foolish enough to miss that. A student is still going to have to memorize the answers if they have the test in advance. OR the teacher could just write a different test once in awhile to "catch" the cheaters, who are going to lose in the long run because they will lack the skills they need in college.

This is just one more of eBay's outrageous policies. I am an eBay Powerseller. I have bought and sold over $50,000 in merchandise in the past 12 months and I must say I am OUTRAGED at this new policy. GET A GRIP EBAY !!! Concentrate your efforts on putting a stop to the scammers and fraud. If you continue this policy I CAN and WILL take my business elsewhere.

This is ridiculous. There is more than just ebay if a kid wants to go that far to cheat. They would find it one way or another. This is bad judgement on ebays part and will cause them to loose money in the long run.
#3444

Deanna Garrett said 08/29/06, 2:18 am (verified)
This is the only way that I can afford to purchase my materials. I need the Teachers Manuals so that I can go along with my child. This is absurd. Children could buy them just as easily from catalogs as ebay, yet the catalogs do not discontinue teachers editions. This is why we parents monitor what our children do. If a child get ahold of the manual, then it is that parents fault. Do not punish all of us ebayers just for SOME children. I stand with this petition.

I support this petition because if they can require you to be over 18 to buy mature games and such, they can require you to be over 18 to buy teachers edition home school books. It is ebay's loss though, once it gets out there will be some sort of internet store to buy and sell home school books

Ebay, do you really think a student in high school/middle/grade school will have access to the necessary bank accounts and Credit card accounts in order to pay me via Paypal?? You will lose much business. Ebay has been a wonderful resource for homeschoolers to resell their curriculum. Why punish the masses for the few students you are assuming will cheat? These are not college textbooks we are selling. These are readily available curriculum resources we can purchase elsewhere without teacher certification or any other verification. I will certainly have to re-evalute my use of ebay if you continue to uphold this policy against homeschoolers!

I am a homeschooling mother trying to make it on one income. I have been a loyal ebay customer for 6 years, buying and selling my homeschool curricula. Without the option of acquiring used curricula on ebay and selling that which I no longer need in order to pay for it, I may have trouble affording to homeschool. I am deeply disappointed in ebay's obvious disregard for homeschoolers. Shame on you!

Renee Cutts said 08/27/06, 7:37 pm (verified)
One of the main reasons I come to ebay is for educational materials, some new and some used, and definately teachers resources and academic software, both of which are now banned. While I am surfing for my childrens educational needs I also shop for other items. If I can't buy my primary reason for coming to ebay, you just lost a very loyal customer. There are other less convenient sources on the web I will go to instead and I will purchase those other items directly from the mom and pop stores, most of which have their own email addresses and websites separate from ebay. Homeschoolers may be banned from buying what they need here, but we are not stupid, we will find another way and ebay will lose a lot of loyal customers. Your loss. We win either way.

I support this petition because how many children do you think are actually scheming about buying books off of ebay andcheating! Most homeschooled children are closely monitored and are hopefully being taught better values than that! If someone really wants to cheat, they are going to find a way to do it whether the books were purchased from ebay or somewhere else. Ebay you don't police what people do with other items that are sold why on this?

You have to have a credit card to open an account on ebay don't you? Also, I don't see a student bidding and buying something on ebay without their parents' noticing. Homeschool materials are a HUGE seller on ebay, this is not a very nice way to treat the homeschoolers that use your site to purchase materials. They need those teacher's editions, get rid of this silly notion!
#3417

Rose Knudsen said 08/16/06, 4:43 am (verified)
Could it be that this is one rule that makes no sense to most anyway? Primary and elementary school age children are not scouting Ebay for "Teacher's Edition's" so they can cheat. Most of these items are home-schooling books, which are purchased by moms to teach their kids at home. Homeschooling parents want their kid's to suceed, not cheat their way through life. Remember, to purchase items on Ebay, a person needs to be over 18, so how can these Primary and Elementary textbooks be abused by students?
#3416

Angela McClain said 08/15/06, 9:02 pm (verified)
Homeschool teachers need these teachers manuals. Does ebay have any idea how many children are being homeschooled nowadays? The figure is in the millions! (That's in the US alone.)
