I recently was a victim of Ebay's policy and had my Teacher's Edition auction cancelled. I had no idea TE's were forbidden as I did a search and there were 11 active TE auctions and 101 TE's for sale on Ebay Stores. I am just sorry to see that this petition has gone on so long and Ebay has ignored it.
This is just not fair to the homeschoolers. And your policy is not what you intended it to be. Do you really think a kindergarten math curriculum that has no grading can be used by kids the wrong way c'mon! This is out of control and the homeschoolers feel like you just have some people that don't support hsing.
As a long-time seller/buyer on eBay, I think the decision to ban these types of materials is misplaced concern -- do we really think there's a large number of students buying this stuff, compared to homeschooing parents who are selling to each other?
There are many more objectionable items that kids could buy on ebay. Besides that you are supposed to be 18 to buy anything on ebay. I myself don't shop on ebay anymore because of this policy.
Public schools get their curriculum that the public cannot usually purchase. So what is the point of discriminating homeschoolers from getting the material to teach their children properly.
I am a homeschool parent of five with a very limited income. I would love to be able to buy teaching aterials cheap on ebay. I get everything else including clothes for my kids off of ebay. So I don't understand why we can't buy or sell teaching materials. If the cheating is the problem if they don't get them off of ebay they will go to a book store. So that will not eliminate the problem.
I've stopped shopping at EBAY for HS materials and most other items because I no longer feel like Ebay is a friendly place for me, a homeschooling parent, to spend time.
Teacher's ed. are like 'lesson plans' and if a student had a copy they actually would have a 'step by step guide' . They don't have quick answers in them, most material is opened ended, based on your ideas.
Absolutely ridiculous! If you take prohibit everything that COULD be used for the wrong reasons, what will you have left to sell? I'm a teacher and I can tell if my students try to cheat...its obvious when they can't do the work in front of me. It's the same as if they turned in homework done by a parent...should be prohibit homework because this COULD happen...or maybe prohibit parents--because they could be used for cheating!? See how silly it sounds? EBAY, find something better to worry about...some of my students parents NEED materials so they can help their child at home. If people want to cheat, they will find a way...don't punish people who legitimately use teacher's editions like homeschooling families. Besides...don't most people use a credit card or Paypal...(and doesn't Paypal usually use credit cards)...how many kids carry those around?
They should be able to sell there stuff on ebay! This is dumb to think a child would buy it to cheat, please last place a kid would be is ebay searching for the stuff they are learning to cheat.
I believe that a policy is only valid, when it can be enforced across the board. Obviously, it can't as there are to this day, Teacher edition materials still beiing sold on Ebay
I'm wasn't homeschooled and I don't really plan on homeschooling, but I don't think there's any reason why eBay should be placing such a restriction on their sales. If a student cheats, that's their problem and their school's to deal with - not eBay.
this policy of ebay is the dumbest thing i have ever heard. if any highschooler feels the need to spen the money to buy a teacher's edition book, Ebay should not be put in a role as moral judge. for god sake's their a corporation, the term moral judge seems like an oxymoron when talking about a corporation
Prohibited Items? It is not like these are things that can hurt people. They are books! Are you going to quite selling other books because you do not like the information they contain?
Homeschoolers rely on selling their used curriculums to pay for next year. This policy is very prejudiced. It's not eBay's job to decide who can buy an item.
Bonjour! What a super websight! Very refreshing to peruse from where we live in Paris (France). I eat frogs and drink wine. Woold like more informatons on this. Best regards! Mikael.
I got the same tramadol attack... well, not the same, because it was only about 20 comments instead of 90, and i t have any filtering set up, and I just deleted them one at a time... hmm.. the only thing really in common was that it was about tramadol... what filter do you have set up that caught them all?

I hope Ebay doesn't think it's any harder to "cheat" by implementing this.
I'm a home schooler and i think it's very unfortunate that people will have to hold on to materials that they no longer need, and still hav to purchases what's needed for next year. I can be quite expensive =[
The homeschool curriculum that our family uses isn't even used in public schools! Ebay's excuse is totally BOGUS! Their agenda is "clearly" against homeschoolers. Ebay is probably sided with the (Liberal) National Education Association (NEA), who are against homeschooling. Like I said before, the curriculum that we use is designed specifically for homeschooling. Therefore, the teacher's manuals and solution keys are designed for "parents" who are classified as "teachers", to aid in teaching their children. If I knew before that the people at eBay are against homeschoolers, then our family would have never gave their website our big business. As much homeschooling materials that we have purchased over the years (including teachers books), is the reason why eBay had became well known in the marketplace as a way for families to buy and sell homeschool material. I am glad that we live in a free market system, so therefore eBay needs huge competition. I am positive that it will be a matter of time that someone will create this huge competition, but without being biased against homeschoolers.
The argument they have stated does not make sense. Publishers sell to non-teachers. What they are doing by creating this ban is attempting to stop the homeschooing community from being able to purchase inexpensive used curriculum. Homeschoolers will be forced to buy from the publishers unless they find an alternate site to buy from.
Parents should be restricting what their kids are buying on Ebay...rather than making it a policy that the books can't be sold at all. The responsibility should rely with parents not EBAY.
We are just starting the homeschooling journey and with a decision like this, ebay is losing out on 12 years of possible transactions. In the very least, legitimate homeschool materials should be allowed for auction.
