We, the undersigned, are requesting the State of Tennessee to enact an infertility insurance mandate. Currently, 15 states in the U.S. are required to offer or treat infertility. These mandates were designed to make conception more affordable (and less emotionally draining) to the 1 of 6 couples that struggle with the disorder. Studies in mandated states have shown that infertility mandates do not greatly increase premiums. In some respects, the mandate helps to save health care dollars. In non-mandated states, since women and men cannot afford more than one cycle, they may dangerously request to transfer more embryos than may be safe. As a result, they may become pregnant with multiples, increasing the cost of prenatal care, delivery, and neonatal intensive care. With multiples, women are usually required to be on bed rest, causing insurance companies and employers large losses. Furthermore, in mandated states, infertility treatments are more successful and less risky for the mother and child. Without the assistance of insurance to pay for treatments ranging from medications to IVF, many people will never experience the joy of pregnancy, childbirth, or watching their child grow. Current legislation deems pregnancy and childbirth as "unnecessary" and "optional". Without children, there is no future and by denying infertility treatment, you are robbing millions of people from a future full of laughter, happiness, and potential.

because I suffer from Polycystic Ovarian Syndrom, a form of infertility. My daughter was born on 12/21/05 as a result of thousands of dollars of treatments BCBS would not cover. No couple should have to deal with insurance aggervations when dealing with this heartbreaking ordeal...

I'm saddenned that there must be a petition to get attention and make headway. Insurance and government need to wake up to the NEEDS of families.

Insurance should cover any and all medical procedures designed to treat body functions which are not performing normally.

Everyone that desires kids should be able to have them. It should be covered by the insurance companies. As it is not afoordable to all who want to have kids.
