Many college and university cafeterias in the United States are going “Trayless.” Green Team and the rest of the students committed to sustainable practices here at the University of Saint Thomas believe that it would be in the school’s best interest to have tray free cafeterias at least one day a week. When this project is complete and “Trayless Thursdays” become a permanent event at the University of Saint Thomas, the school will be on its way to a much more sustainable and cost efficient campus. Some benefits include: Less dishes to wash/conserving water, wasting less food/ lessening food waste per student, saving money due to less food waste in the cafeterias. Each student saves 12 cents of food waste when they don’t use a tray, and cumulatively the student body could save thousands of pounds of food waste if the University of St. Thomas goes trayless.
