I am tired of people signing this petition while rejecting the existence of the tree octopi. I find signature number 132 particularly disturbing, specially for its orthography and ill-based argument. I have seen the tree octopi and they are a miracle of evolution. I commend the creator of this website. *BOWS* Thanks.
I would support this petition if it was real. The person who made this really spent a lot of time making the site and changing the photographs so that they looked real. I would also like to advise the family memebers of the person who made this to take him/her to a medical clinic or some other type of phsycyatrist. (Person who helps solve mental problems. Sorry, I'm not good at spelling.) I would also like to now how to make a personal web site, except I think it isn't a good idea on my part to be asking someone who is mental. They don't talk much, and I don't see them often (they don't like my scent and I have to sprinkle myself with pine needles for them to come near), but I am their friends and they are mine. It was only ten years ago that I wrote my thesis on tree octopuses. At that time, there seemed to be little danger of for these species. But in some areas where tree octopuses are endemic, numbers are seriously dwindling. Because their prey food have become contaminated with PCBs & other toxins in recent years, the build-up of these toxins in the tree octopus have impacted their reproductive abilities. Other sources of toxins can also be found in the water where they breed. Their egg cases have become so fragile that stronger currents can tear the thin membrane apart before the young octopus have developed into free swimming form. It will take many years before the impacted populations can return to normal, even if pollution was to stop today.
With the possibility that their habitat may be drastically changed, there may be insufficient numbers left to replace those lost from predation, disease, & natural causes. We need to do all that we can now before it's too late. It would be a tragedy if future generations learn about tree octopus in the same books that tell of the dodo & the great auk.
