At the end is posted an editorial from the detroit paper, the person is right about the speeds, but wrong about their decision of not raising the speed not being necessary. Most of michigan allows fast trucks, then there are counties like jackson, who profit on trucks by issuing many tickets daily for as low as 6 mph over, and double the fines for commercial vehicles. This is really bad for the out of state driver, who may lose his job due to a ticket like this, as it is careless over 10 mph. Worse for local drivers, as the state will lose michigan jobs and income...because professional drivers earn. 30-50 thousand a year Rather than vary county to county. A raised speed limit will give a uniform speed for the drivers, and piece of mind. Wisconsin is 65 same as cars, cars and trucks running overs 70. Indiana has also just raised their truck speed to 65. Also, when professional drivers are sidelined, they may find other jobs permanently while they are unemployed. Driving is not meant for everyone. The prof. drivers sidelined and waiting for points to drop off, will be replaced with new recruits, rookies who may or may not be able to handle there truck in bad weather, or emergency situations, or they may not be able to work odd hours driving late at night, some rookies may not be meant for to be truck drivers and may easily fall asleep...Keep our professional drivers.... Here is a copy of that editorial mentioned earlier: Don't raise truck speed limit I don't think members of the Legislature have to raise the speed of trucks from 55 to 60 miles per hour. If any of them drive the freeways, they know the cars travel at 75-80 mph and the trucks at 65-75, so the speed difference is minimal. So it is not necessary to raise the truck speed limit. in the time it takes for a truck doing 56 to pass a convoy doing 55, cars can get backed up as far as the eye can see.

i agree 100% with all the facts and opinions on this site.. Making our speed limit closer to a cars speed limit will reduce 4 wheelers getting pissed at trucks for going slow. Will also git-r-done on a safer level.

I think this is a great idea. the only obsticles i can forsee are the Michigan State Police motor carrier division, and the Governor may not go for it if it isn't popular that day. I pray this can happen
