Proposals for a national compulsory identity cards scheme, to strengthen national security and protect people's identity, have been set in place by the Home Office of the UK. This is called the Identity Cards Bill.

The scheme will provide a simple and secure 'gold standard' for proving identity, protecting people from identity fraud and theft and providing them with a convenient means of verifying their identity in everyday transactions.

We DO NOT oppose this bill.

What we do oppose, is the bland, dull and poorly designed card itself.

If we are to use this card as part of our everyday life, it needs to be well designed, engaging and properly thought out - not to expand on how some people think of the UK - dull, grey and lifeless!

We ask the Home Office team to appoint an established design firm, with a proven track record, to come up with fresh and innovative, but useful ideas for the UK identity cards.
