I have to say I agree with Sarah. Obviously the Harry/Hermione shippers are not the only "true" fans of the Harry Potter series... in fact you will find that statistics show in countless polls that more people believed in Ron/Hermione than Harry/Hermione. Also, a lot of H/Hr shippers may not be considered "true" Harry Potter fans if they were stupid enough (or indeed "delusional" enough) to stop reading the series just because one of their predictions wasn't correct. Considering that over 50% of books are lucky to sell 100 books a year, I don't think that even 1,000,000 H/Hr fans not buying the book would make them consider not publishing. Considering HBP sold 2 million copies on one day (in Britain only) it is pretty unlikely that the publishers would even consider not publishing the seventh book. Just because a few petty people decided to throw a temper tantrum. For God sakes, it's JKR's book, so you have no right to tell her what to write in it!

Wow, so much contention over the social lives of a few teenagers (fictional ones, at that)...! I was a Heron shipper from the beginning, but I can understand the Harmony appeal. However, like so many others have said before me, and will continue to say, I'm sure, I have never found any evidence to support any romantic developments between Harry and Hermione. Let me tell you a story: when I was in high school, I had a crush on this guy – to call it gargantuan would be an understatement! I thought for sure that we were meant to be together forever. Whenever I talked to him, looked at him, passed him in the halls, or was within fifty miles of him, I always looked for any shred of possibility that he liked me back. Wow, did he just glance in my direction? He's whispering to his best friend – they must be talking about me! Oh my goodness, he put his backpack down close to mine! To my utter disappointment, no interest in me ever materialized. Now I can look back and see that it was all for the best, as I am married to an great guy (who by the way is also a Heron fan). But at the time, it was the end of the world. I couldn't understand what went wrong – how could he not see that we were perfect for each other?? Humans are crazy creatures – we can invent our own realities and make things around us appear the way we think they should be. (Ever seen What Dreams May Come? Awesome movie.) But what we see through our own rose-colored glasses is not necessarily the world as it really is. I really wanted that guy to like me, and I found the proof I wanted – over-analyze anything and you can bend it to whatever purpose you desire. But it didn't happen. I was all for Harry and Hermione together...I guess what you guys call a "shipper." But you know what? Part of being a reader and a literary audience is having no control over basic plot elements. Yes, we can interpret scenes and emotions and characters differently and in that way we are significant to the books and author...but in the long run, it is the author who chooses which road to follow for her characters and her writing. JK did NOTHING wrong by making a choice for HER characters. Whether or not we're "happy" or "satisfied" with the decision she made, the books are still phenomenal in the imagination they expound. Do not demean her simply because she didn't write the books as you might have...she's her own person and will therefore write in her own way. Afterall, if she didn't, the series wouldn't be nearly so good. Would you go around making changes based on your fan base rather than stick to a more personalized plot-line? And by the way, despite my fondness for a Hermione and Harry outcome, I think I'll be just fine with the way things are turning out. That is to say, I love the books just the same, whether or not my expectations for certain plot elements have been met. I'm even enjoying them more because I don't know everything that's to come: and if I did know it all and was correct in every hypothesis, I'd be strongly disappointed in this highly developed series.
