I think a little common sense is in order here.
It is absolutely pointless to argue proof for relationships in the books. To do so suggests that the books somehow exist external and independent of the mind of J.K. Rowling, and that her latest and future books should be compared against them to judge their legitimacy.
The very title of this "petition" -- Harry and Hermione are destined for each other -- is pure idiocy.
What is "destiny?" In the real world, if it exists, it is the future that God or Fate or whatever has in store for each person.
In the world of Harry Potter, J.K. Rowling is the god or Fate that controls what happens to her characters. She is the one who dictates those characters destinies.
Now, J.K.Rowling has declared that Hermione and Ron should fall in love. Thus, the title of this petition is quite plainly false: Harry and Hermione are NOT destined for each other because the one who controls their destinies (Rowling) says they are not.
The most any H/Hr shipper can claim is that passages in the books led them to expect a different outcome. That is all. No one has the right to tell Rowling what her characters are destined for.

At this point, I really feel sorry for snowy and the other hardcore, "I'm right, you're wrong" Harry/Hermione shippers. It is Ron and Hermione. It has always been Ron and Hermione. Harry and Hermione AREN'T GOING TO HAPPEN.

The book will still be published, people will still read it, and Harry and Hermione will still be the platonic friends that they've always been. Agreed, post 960 is solid. Even if it's someone faking Jo, it's an excellent imitation and I'm sure exactly what she would actually say.
And how is Ron/Lavender romantic? All they do is make out. That's not romance in the least, it's physical satisfaction. No, there is no scene in the books where Ron and Hermione are going at it in the corner. So what? They're not officially dating yet, but all signs and interviews have confirmed that they will be. There was no solid romance scene at all between harry and hermione. There's really very little evidence pointing that way. They get along really well and are comfortable saying things like "you're more fanciable." Would you EVER say something like that to someone you have a secret crush on? Would you say that to your crush in front of your best friend? I wouldn't. Hermione's character wouldn't, she's comfortable enough and there is no sexual tension between her and Harry so she's able to give objective notes like that. She and Ron have that vaguely uncomfortable bickering jealousy thing, like that kid that likes you in fourth grade pulling your hair. They both need to grow up in some respects, which I see developing at the end of book 6 into book 7. And don't forget, we've been getting Harry's opinions on everything for six books now. We learned immediatly of any sort of attraction he's had to Cho, Fleur, the Veelas, or Ginny. He's never felt anything towards Hermione that wasn't on the friendly plane. Yes, he said "you're not ugly," but that is a little different from "you're beautiful, i want to date you."
