Urge Najib To Act NOW Against Cow-Head Protestors
Published August 29, 2009
On 28 August 2009, 3 days before our National Day and during the holy month of Ramadhan, a dark shadow of racism and religious hatred was cast as 50 Malay-Muslims protested the construction of a Hindu temple by brandishing a severed cow's head and promising violence.

The government and police reaction to this: nothing.

For an administration usually so eager to arrest hundreds of peaceful Malaysians involved in so-called "illegal gatherings", their severe failure not only to respond swiftly and strongly against this march but to stand by and observe as it occurred is a shocking exposure of the hypocrisy that exists in our government.

Malays, Chinese and Indians alike, it is apparent to all of us Malaysians that had it been any other race or religious collective marching against the building of a mosque the event would never have been allowed to take place, much less go as far as it did, and its organisers arrested immediately. Furthermore, brandishing the severed head of an animal seen as sacred to Hindus is the equivalent of burning the Quran for Muslims- a crime of hatred at its deepest.

Neither scenario should be allowed- however in this case, not only were no arrests made, but the riot police themselves stood by and watched as the entire provocative act unfolded.

Is this the kind of One Malaysia the government intended?

As true, moderate Malaysians of all races and faiths, male and female, living both in the country and abroad, we are united in our feelings of anger and shame at this incident and urge the Prime Minister Dato' Seri Najib Tun Razak as the leader of our nation to act immediately. It is already too little too late that nothing was done earlier, but your swift and strong response is what must happen now to show that the government is truly serious about racial unity.

Arrest and sentence not just the 50 individuals involved but the organisers and political puppeteers behind the movement, as well as all members at all levels of the police force responsible for their inaction. The pictures are there and the names named.

Inciting religious hatred, threatening national peace and security by stating that they "guarantee bloodshed", severely disgracing the Islamic faith by carrying out this disgusting display not just whilst chanting Allah's name, but during the month of Ramadhan, on a Friday, directly after prayers and straight from a mosque... we as Malaysians unite in condemning these despicable acts and demand that you hold the protestors responsible, as well as the powers-that-be that aided and abetted them.
