Whereas the United States is no longer desired as a military presence by the people of Iraq, and;

Whereas the American people have spoken their disapproval of the continued American war in Iraq, and;

Whereas the death toll on the civilian population of Iraq has likely surpassed half a million and the American military death toll is more than 3000 with more than 24,000 wounded, and;

Whereas the American taxpayer has already been burdened with more than $400 billion in war expenses, while many of our domestic public programs have fallen into disrepair,

We the students of the University of Washington hereby pledge to walk out of class at 12 noon on Wednesday, April 18, 2007, and not to return to class for the rest of the day in attempt to provoke a call to action to the United States Congress and the president that we want our troops out of Iraq, and we want immediate action taken to precipitate this outcome.

This event is in solidarity with walk-outs at schools and universities across Seattle, and is sponsored by Students For Peace at the University of Washington.
