Goal Progress:
After the devastating Virtual Console week on July 20, 2009 (Which had NO Virtual Console support), I've decided to start a petition on the Virtual Console because I care about the Virtual Console and don't want it to suffer the same faith as Toonami with Cartoon Network. I love the Wii and this is one of the main reasons why I love it, the Virtual Console gives Wii owners with Internet access the oppertunity to play classic games such as Super Mario Bros., Sonic the Hedgehog, Super Metroid, Bomberman 94', The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Samurai Showdown II, and The Last Ninja.
However, starting in November, 2008, the Virtual Console started to go downhill in not just quanity, but also quality. This is mainly caused by one-game week, which we all dreaded, but we never thought it would end up this bad with no Virtual Console game this week (WiiWare launch doesn't count). Since then, Hudson Soft has temporarily cancel Virtual Console support (It resumed Virtual Console support thought), sub-par weeks were common, and Earthbound came into legal issues, which could prevent Virtual Console release and forever dash all hopes for the series continuing outside Japan. It may even cause the unwanted removal of Ness and Lucas in Super Smash Bros. 4.
Also contributing to it's potential premature death is the seemingly unreverseable issues of licensing games. Only one licensed games, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was released on the Virtual Console and then that game was critically panned for it's difficulty. No one knows if we'll ever see an decent licensed Virtual Console game again.
Making licensing issues even more of a problem is that Rare games are basicilly banned from the Virtual Console, except the Donkey Kong Country series. In fact, we'll be lucky to even see Donkey Kong Country 64 on the Virtual Console.
Another problem is copyright issues, which Earthbound has. Because the game has so many similar songs and some similar look-alike to people, getting the game on the Virtual Console is difficult to do. And strangely, I think Earthbound release on the Virtual Console could determind the Virtual Console faith. If they do release Earthbound on the Virtual Console, the Virtual Console will be safe for a long while and we'll be able to see the Virtual Console we've hoped or. If we don't ever see Earthbound on the Virtual Console, not only will we never see the Mother series outside of Japan again and the removal of Ness and Lucas in Super Smash Bros. 4, it will also mean the premature end of the Virtual Console.
We should also note that defunct or bankrupt video game companies will also be difficult to release on the Virtual Console. Two such examples are the Mortal Kombat series and Turok series for the Nintendo 64. The Mortal Kombat series is under Midway, which could be dead by now and Turok series was formally owned by Acclaim, which is not defunct and the series is owned by Touchstone, which means the game has licensing issues, since Touchstone is owned by Disney.
Another problem is re-releases of old games on the DS and Wii platforms, and both mentioned are excellent games (Despite me not owning them.). Two examples are Kirby Super Stars and Chrono Trigger, both universally acclaimed and they are SNES excluisive! However, since the DS remakes are now out, it's questionable if we're ever going to see either of those games.
Adding to the problem with Nintendo 64 games is that most third-party games requires you to have the Controller Pak to save your game, which has no confirmed support on the Virtual Console. If Nintendo don't work around these issues, many if not all third-party games will never see the light and day of the Virtual Console.
Another unsupported Nintendo 64 accessory is the VRU, which Hey You! Pikachu! uses. There might a solution to this (Use Wii Speak instead), but Nintendo is unlikely to release this, due to lack of VRU.
The lack of Transfer Pak can also be to blame for the lack of Pokemon Stadium and Pokemon Stadium 2, which let's people play Pokemon Red, Blue (Green In Japan), Yellow, Gold, and Sliver from Pokemon Stadium 1 & 2.
The issues with release Nintendo 64 games makes Nintendo 64 games the most difficult to release.
And given Nintendo of America unpredictable Virtual Console releases, who knows when we'll see any games we want, let alone a schedule.
And let's not forget that unsupporting video games companies can also prevent releases. Such companies include EA Sports and Ubisoft.
And with the patchic update we've been reciving recently, game with any of the legal issues won't be the only one not receivng a release. Check out these games that may not have any issues being release, yet might not make it to the Virtual Console:

Think about it. If the Virtual Console is dead, then we have missed out on so many title, it's not even funny. Guys, we are in a terrible situation and we are losing the oppertunity to play many of the games that we grew up with or want to enjoy and the only way to preserve them is the Virtual Console. Look at the list again and you'll realize these games have no problem being released on the Virtual Console, yet they could still remain unavailable on any Nintendo systems permanently. Our childhood memories should be preserve by the Virtual Console and nobody wants to have to take there old video game systems just to play them.
To people who said "Well you can get them by Ebay or use ROMs", that is an poor excuse not to support the Virtual Console, Yes, I'm planning to use Ebay for my Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo Entertainment System, but some games you want are very expensive. Take for example, Earthbound. It needs to be release on the Virtual Console, but it has problems doing so, due to copyright issues. Nobody wants to be force to shell out $50-200 just to play Earthbound, it's way too expensive not to be released on the Virtual Console. And while I do use ROMs, I will buy the games I use as ROMs on the Virtual Console.
If you have a Wii connected to the Internet and want to play some old games that you don't have, there's no excuse not to support the Virtual Console.
And to people who thinks not having a Virtual Console anymore won't do much to the Nintendo Wii, think again. It is the primary source for entertainment for most hardcore gamers like me. If they cancel the Virtual Console without warning, the consequences will be devastating. Nintendo will lose most, if not all of there hardcore audience to Sony and Microsoft and start to lose money and eventually not be able to afford being an console manafacture anymore. They will become a third-party company like Sega and Atari and lose quality in there games. This can happen to Nintendo, but it hasn't happen yet, despite hardcore gamers ******** about Nintendo day and night. But it could happen.
Take for example, Cartoon Network. Remember when they used to be the best? Now they are losing audience, kids and adults due to canceling Toonami without any warning whatsoever. As a result, most fans (Myself included) were outraged and stopped watching Cartoon Network once and for all. In fact, they are less popular then ScyFy. That's a shocker, isn't it? And it wasn't just that. Over the course of four years leading up to the cancelation of Toonami, they have made many poor decisions, such as the critically hated new CN logo (Which I would defend) and bringing in live action shows.
Many former Nintendo fans will argue with me that Nintendo has already follow a similar path with Cartoon Network, maybe even worse to them then Cartoon Network, but that hasn't happen yet. They were far worse off during the Nintendo 64 and Gamecube days.
But despite this, if they do indeed cancel the Virtual Console without warning, this will be the first major migratation of hardcore gamers to the Microsoft and Sony console and we do not want that to happen.
People, now that you're done reading all this important stuff, it's time to stand together and fight for the ability to play some of our favorite games on the Virtual Console and be able to solve all issues with the Virtual Console. That way, we can finally have the Virtual Console we envision.
The Virtual Console is not dead yet, we still have hope that you'll finally be able to play your favorite games on the Virtual Console. If you want to voice your opinion on this and still care about the Virtual Console, join force and sign here to show that you care about the Virtual Console and want to see it's full potential.
