They are an incredible part of the industry, and memorable characters for many of us who grew up gaming. I know I'm not the only one buying Mario games based only on the characters!
This is a good idea, Super Mario and other video games were a huge part of entertainment for youth everywhere. If Cartoons can get on there, why not Video Game Characters?!?!
Icons such as Mario and Link deserve mainstream recognition, as does their creator, Shigeru Miyamoto. However, we should recognize only the truly classic and not the current fad.

i love the cheeky antics our little plumber friend has gotten upto over the years and i think its high time he got the recognition he truly deserves and especially before sony pay loads of money and get clara loft there instead.

Actually,one video game character,is not enought.They should put Mario,Link(from Zelda),Pikachu,Yoshi,Wari o.Admit it,a video game character could be more famous than a real artist itself!

Mario has been a star for years. On NES, SNES, N64, NGC, GB, GBA, and now on the NDS, Mario has been a staple in many homes for over 20 years. It's about time that someone created a petition to get this plumber a star!!!
Mario is the first name in video games, so he should be the first video game icon to get a star. He got 150 of them on SM64DS, why not just one in real life?
Yes, It's about time video games get some healthy recognition... considering all the new bills trying to be passed to ban some of them. Link does deserve star status... along with The Master Cheif, because they should go buy the amount of units sold, and halo has sold quite a few.
Mario, Link and Sub-Zero, deserve a star on the walk of fame, thier just as popular as any other star. If anything, thier even more popular than most of the A-list actors today. Just don't add Master Chief, he is no even worthy of star status
Videogames don't get enough credit these days. You get infinitely more bang for your buck with a game than a movie, and yet movies get all the glory. What movie sports as well-known a rivalry as that of Mario vs Bowser? None.
I grew up with Mario, Samus, Zelda/Link, Donkey Kong, et al. Hopefully the media won't be so stuck up to allow video games the recognition they deserve.
Honestly, the characters deserve squat, they are 3d figures, not people.
