People not only use layaway during Christmas for financial reasons but also
to hide presents from their children. Wal-Mart needs to remember the
people who got them where they are and stop trying to bring in a higher
class. |

Kathleen Miller :
I think Wal*Mart is being very shortsighted with this decision. I've
read that layaway isn't making enough money for them, but I think
they're going to lose a lot more money because people who can't put
purchases on layaway, don't have credit cards and can't afford to
pay full price will go to other stores where they can still use layaway.
While they're at the other stores, they may also buy their toiletries,
milk, etc. because of the convenience.

With a new target coming to the town I live in WHY should I remain loyal to
Wal-Mart when they are NOT loyal to their customers! Wal-Mart gets a lot of
money from lower income people! Yet are NOT going to provide a service
these people use year after year! I for one will travel and shop at Target
until it is finished in the town I live! K-Mart is right across from my
local Wal-Mart I am SURE they will like my money just fine!! |

I think the removal of layaway will hurt low income, retirees and just the
average people. Credit cards are not the answer - with them comes interest
charges. Please find some other way to cut corners. |

Tammy L. :
Walmart should focus on catering to the people who have become loyal
shoppers and who enjoy the convenience of the layaway program. And
remember, Walmart is not meant to be a high-end department store like
Macy's and others...it is meant to be a store for families who have
income restrictions and enjoy getting a good deal on the stuff they need.
Please keep the layaway program going. |

Cindy S :
I understand that this costs the store money - but it's an invaluable
tool to help others obtain items they can't purchase up front. This
allows everyone to be equal in purchasing items. Please reconsider. |

Sometimes, this is the only means that a lower incomed family has, to buy
and have nice things for themselves! This is a service that is so needed

Shannon Wilson :
I support this petition because it will hurt a lot of lower income people,
including myself, to take it away. I don't have the option of getting a
Walmart credit card. People who are lower income and/or have not so great
credit, shouldn't be punished by having layaway taken away. If
anything, I'd rather Walmart keep layaway, and implement a $5.00 charge
if the layaway was cancelled. |

children. You will lose a huge portion of your target customer base if you
do away with this program. |

Misty Herod :
We will NEVER use a walmart credit card. We don't use credit cards at
all. If you discontinue the layaway service I will take my business else
where. Walmart will NOT save money by doing this. They will lose it to
stores that provide that service! |

Scott Revis :
because this is the only way I can buy a lot of things and I also buy
Christmas for a lot of under priveleged kids at Christmas time and this is
the only way I can afford to bring a smile to a kids face on Christmas
morning and this program should be kept in place. Greed will only cost you
loyal customers that will take their business elsewhere that have this
program so I will be heading to K Mart if they do away with it |

Rebecca :
I support this petition because it's the only way I can afford to buy
things. I'm on a single-person income, and buying several things at
once, outright, is impossible for me, as is getting a credit card.
Lay-away allows me to purchase what I need and pay it off as I'm able
to. Wal-Mart needs to think of the needs of the public -- the customers
are their bread and butter -- and give them what they need, not what the
company wants. Wal-Mart will be shooting themselves in the foot if they
eliminate Layaway and institute credit cards instead.
What Wal-Mart REALLY needs to do is stop thinking of the almighty dollar,
think of their customers' real needs, stop short-changing their
employees, and GET UNIONIZED. |

i don't have a lot of money, and in 2004 as a result of layaway i was
able to buy over $500 worth of christmas gifts for my family. i am already
in credit card debt and i do not want another credit card. i have always
gone to walmart for the low prices and have even worked there in the past.
if layaway is discontinued then i can almost guarantee you i won't be
shopping there much longer. |

because that is just ridiculous to get rid of something that so many people
rely on. I know my mom and dad use it to get my kids things for christmas.
And to get rid of something that helps people be able to provide things for
their families is just ingnorant. I know if this happens, i won't shop
there any longer, i can go to Meijer and use their layaway and be just as
happy. So don't get rid of it. I think Walmart will go under if they do
away with it. |

As a mother and grandmother I utilize the lay-away to purchase items for my
children and grandchild. With today's economy it is often necessary for
many of us to utilize a service such as this to have the basic household
and personal items which make life more comfortable. If this program is
discontinued, I will take my business elsewhere. I will also no longer use
Sam's Club (my membership is due for renewal soon. And I will use other
stores for purchasing items for our child care facility. |

what about the people because of their income they do not qualify for the
store credit cards. Is this just another way for WalMart to squeeze more
money from the lower middle to lower income customer? With the store credit
card comes the higher intrest rate that is always charged to the curstomer
with the lower income and credit risk.
