In Canada we are a Democratic Society and our Democracy allows us to vote people into Government Office trough a Democratic Vote. When 2 or more people run for the same seat, we are able to vote into power the person who the majority feels will be best suited for the position. During the last election for Mayor in St. John's, Newfoundland, present Mayor Andy Wells took the position by default as his opponent was forced to withdraw from the race based on a family medical emergency. This left no immediate opponent and the seat for office was merely handed over. This is not to say that immediately following the closing of or during the remainder of this past election, there was no other party interested in taking up opposition as is the case now. In fact there may have been others who initially wanted to run but because they knew one of the candidates, they opted not to run for the same position. There are people who would run against the Mayor at this time if an election was called. In his Default Position as Mayor, he has served in excess of 24 months and if he was to resign now, his pension would still treat this as a fully served term. But do we really want a rude and loud mayor who does things like yell at the public, makes arrogant phone calls to the private sector from a taxpayer paid office or send degrading emails in his capacity as Mayor, representing every taxpayer of St. John's, to private people from a taxpayer paid email account while drawing a taxpayer paid salary of $90,000. per year and in doing this in his capacity as Mayor is relaying this message for every taxpayer in St. John's as he is the voice of the City. If Andy Wells remains in power, he has 2.5 years left in office to totally destroy the good name and reputation of St. John's. Is this what we want? Or do we want to elect a new mayor who will represent the people of St. John's properly and treat people with respect. I think Mayor Andy Wells Should Resign for the reasons outlined... Does anyone else feel the same??

I am not signing the Petition. i am just nearly posting a comment. I support Andy Wells. If you were in his seat, You'd do it to. Afterall, as your salary goes up, so does ur expenses, and when theres an opportunity knocks, to make MORE money obviously anyone, and everyone would take it cause soon after Selfishness takes over. He is just getting selfish a nd taking the Opportunity anyone else would. If he was jsut working in the government, and took on this job at the same time, would you think you guys would be doing this? would it be such a big deal then? no, it wouldn't. Get off your high horses, and realize you would do it too, if you had the chance. We are all human and we arn't stuiped. Its all about money sadly.

Theres no reason to think otherwise. For a job that requires your full on attention like running a city or leading a board that has major dealings with said city, you cant give it half attention. He needs to wake up and see just how wrong of a path he is going down by doing this and leave one job or the other. All he is concerned about is the money that he will get with two paychecks...

He needs to go. Just like that bad smell down at the Harbour. Enough people complain, we can change anything!

I strongly agree. Andy Wells claims to be a people person when in fact he only cares about himself and nobody ekse. What kind of mayor runs a city for the people but dosn't care for them?

In My Option yes i realy turly think Andy Wells should step down i have watched him on the local tv station and i have seen how he talks to the ppl in st. John's and honestly i think he is rude and does not treat ppl with equal repect as ppl should give i don't think Andy cares about this town I seen and heard what he did with Gary Kay and I think it is wrong i lost all respect for Andy Wells. and i think he should step down and let someone take his place that can treat ppl of st. John's with the respect they deserve. And keep this Provice the friendly happy Place it is. Thank you
