BACKGROUND

Most games that are released to European Wii's Virtual Console are original PAL-releases that are running in 50hz mode. When these games were originally released in Europe, 50 hz mode was essential as majority of European televisions didn't support 60hz mode. Unfortunately, using 50 hz mode had some notable side-effects.

Most notable of these side-effects is that all games did run 17 percent slower than their NTSC counterparts. In addition, games didn't take advantage of PAL's higher resolution. Instead all PAL's extra scanlines were blank, creating large black bars that letterboxed the image. This created a squashed, out of proportion picture.

This was understandable in early 90's, but the problem is that we are living in the 21th century. Today majority of european television sets support 60 hz mode and there is no real excuse for not to use it. Especially when most old PAL NES / SNES games don't feature any kind of localization and have same content as NTSC-versions.

Therefore, we humbly request that Nintendo of Europe either starts to sell US versions or at least give us option to run our games in 60 hz mode.

I support this petition. My TV did not support interlaced modes, so I purchased costly Nintendo component cables in order to switch to 480p; but VC games are all blank! I feel ripped off!

it is rediculous that in this time and age, Nintendo does not support 60HZ for its virtual console games.

Yes, please fix it! I love Nintendo and I agree with what others said about the DS here, working like a international gaming center (all the handhelds worked like that since the original GameBoy). Don't make us play Sonic the Hedgehog in 50hz... again.

This is unacceptable. I thought my days of putting up with shoddy 50hz conversions and having to import were long gone.

Unbelievable. If you want to stop giving people reasons to import hardware & then software, this is not the way to do it.

Nintendo's arrogance astounds me. After the Xbox 360 had settings for 60mhz out of the box, it looked likely that the days of PAL/NTSC issues were over for good. But i guess the Wii isn't a next gen console after all. THANKS FOR NOTHING NINTENDO. As much as i looked forward to the Wii i wont be buying it until they fix this critical error.

The fact of the matter is that in this day and age there really is no excuse for this. If nothing else you are giving European gamers the incentive they need to import from the US or simply rip old ROMs off the internet. Either way, you shoot yourselves in the foot. Wise up Nintendo, we love your games but hate being treated like second-class citizens or the US/Japan's backward sibling to whom the choice is never offered because our opinion seemingly doesnt count. Rant over...

50hz pal should stay in the past. VC is a great idea, but w/o 60hz support i will not be using it. Give us the choice.

I might as well stick with my ROMs as they can run in 60Hz...shame as I really wanted to support VC.

If Microsoft can do it, and provide Hi-Def, Nintendo can at least provide is 60hz all round.

Until this issue is resolved, I shall abstain from all Virtual Console releases.
