I am beyond tired of having to hear people around me say the word "retarded" as another word for "stupid." Doesn't anyone understand that if YOU were someone with a disability of some kind, YOU would NOT want someone saying "retarded" to you or in general?! Just think about it as if you were the "target" of that word. You know you would hate it, so just respect other people who have become innocent bystanders in your hateful words.
To those that also feel that "retarded" is a horrible word to say: Thank you for taking a stand and not saying it or accepting when people around you say it. It's an incredibly hurtful word that needs to be banned from our society alltogether!
I have a little brother who has moderate cerebral palsy. The children at his afterschool program called him "retarded" one day and he did NOT deserve that! He is the most affectionate, loving, caring child you will ever meet in your life. It broke my heart that he had to experience that and it kills me this probably wouldn't be the only time for him. These are CHILDREN that called him that, we are taking away the innocence of our children by exposing them to that word and not stopping them from saying it! Please help me to stop this horrible trend that has already gotten out of hand!
