We have known Yirae Kang for the past three years, and lived with her for the past two. During this time, we've seen Yirae in a variety of situations, both academically and non-academically. Never have we seen an individual that is so hard-working, intelligent, dedicated, and disciplined as Yirae. During this past spring semester, she took an extremely demanding courseload, despite the fact that she was preparing for the MCAT. Yirae took couses like gross anatomy and histology, in order to adequately prepare herself for medical school. She also received a minor in economics, even though it was not required. Yirae worked extremely hard and was involved in many extracirrucular activities, such as the Economics Club and was very active at her church. As for the MCAT, she sucessfully passed the physical and biological science sections with scores that exceeded what was requried, but did not pass the verbal section. Nonetheless, her score on the verbal section was commendable, seeing as that english was not her native language. For these reasons and many more, we feel that Yirae Kang should start medical school this August and be a part of the graduating class of 2010.

Yirae wouldn't watch TV with me. It seems she had more important things to do such as study for the MCAT and her demanding class load. Reading Yirae's schedules any given semester would be enough to send the average college student running for their life. Was that enough to put her down? Nope. How about church and family obligations? Nope. How about partaking in organizations on campus for the sake of increasing diversity awareness? Nope. How about the verbal section of the MCAT in which many admissions committees are giving it a second look and are considering petitioning themselves to have that section dismissed? Yep. To articulate thoughts in language, you must be able to read it, write it, think in it as well as speak it. Yirae has an exeptional bilingual ability. Her grammar, usage, spelling are flawless as per the written requirements of English. Further, she is a pleasure to converse with because she enunciates every word correctly and her flow is congruent with the often harsh sanctions that our language often poses. Talk to her for fifteen minutes and you would never know English wasn't her native language. Per this verbal reasoning test, the apparent purpose is to assess the examinee's working knowledge of our language as well as to apply, often complicated, logical reasoning principles. There is little doubt this paradigm, once demonstrated as "learned" per a score of 8, will serve to reflect an ability in a tentative physician to think critically. However plausible the claim of the verbal reasoning sections ability to assess these values, Yirae has already passed this section one other time and has subsequently (through, I may add, a work ethic one can only categorize as "extreme") passed above average both sections of physical and biological sciences as well as attaining an above average score on her written essays. I believe Yirae will make a great physician because she is a wonderful, generous, intelligent, and hard-working person! Also because as a student whose native language is not English, I truly understand how language barrier can sometimes hinder a person from showing his or her true talents and intelligence such as in Yirae's case. As her classmate and friend for the past three years, I truly believe she is capable of performing well and even above standard in the medical school. Please consider advancing Yirae Kang into NEOUCOM!
