I agree that there needs to be some major changes, but the person who started this petition obviously doesn't have a clear understanding of Social Security benefits ... I think he is referring to SSI, which is (in layman's terms) basically a welfare program for disabled people who cannot get Social Security benefits.
Also, I used to work as a claims rep for SSA and I can tell you that many have that attitude expressed by Andrea. I can sympathize to a point because you would not believe how many people try to abuse the system and waste resources and money by applying for basically no reason, over and over. But that'e neither here nor there, I suppose, and I am not trying to justify her comments.
