for so many reasons, today its because for some unknown reason Christians believe they "own" marriage, someone needs to let them know that they weren’t (and still are not) the only religion to use it, and further more today it (often) has nothing to do with religion. It is a matter of law. But if the governments must pander to the various religious cults they should do it right. Something simple like: Legalise gay marriage. If a particular religious cult wants to ban gay marriage AMONG THERE OWN CULT MEMBERS then we should allow that, though any cult or organisation preaching hate or inciting violence should be shut down in the interest of international security.
