Okay... Sirius and Dumbledore kinda DID need to die. To convince Harry to go on his quest to defeat Voldemort and his Death Eaters. In a way, Voldy's sorta killing everyone Harry cares about, (his parents, Sirius, Dumbledore...) and that gives Harry the desire to defeat HIM. Make sense?
