Its been debated since rock lost its dominace on the charts back in the mid 90's, and saw the rise of pop and then hip hop basically since Emienem made hip hop a domient force in the early 2000s. back then people were probaly sick of rock and the only rock bands were around were rap/rock hybrids like limp bizkut and linkin park or the pop punk artists like blink 182 and good charlotte. and the other rock and metal went mostly underground like queens of the stoneage and muse. but then people probaly got fed up with hip hop when it became to shallow and turned to an alternative which is rock. And I reckon about when Wolfmother, the Killers, My Chemical Romance came back some of the cult followers started paying attention as a result rock is once again plauged by the common Jock dickhead or the uneducated teeny bopper chicks. where as 5 years ago most of them would have been into hip hop and now are just following what ever is on the radio.
