Bums are bums because of decisions they make. The only difference between us and them is they lack any motitivation and have gotten used to the lifestyle. A lot of them probably came out of prison and never adjusted - just waiting to go back in. Some got caught up in the wrong crowd doing drugs probably hanging out at hostiles and campgrounds. The old gang split up and went their own way and then there you are wanting to stay in that lifestyle so you become homeless going town to town sleeping on the streets. Eventually you just get used to it. Your life becomes so mundane and worthless that you sink into a mode of self-despair, possibly staying strung out on drugs for years. Then you come down just in time to realize that you have freaked yourself up beyond any hope of rejoining society. The world just isn't what it used to be so you either become humble and beg for change or stay strung out on drugs begging for change. Doesn't make a difference.
