the dogs should be protected. and yes, to the tom below, people do shot at them. There has been several dogs who have been shot and killed by people who don't want to be caught and are just down right stupid. There is also such a thing as vests for dogs, some departments don't use them, because of the money issue. They are police officers too and should be protected just as much as the human officers. I also take a lot of offense to your statement that it's just a dog. Have you ever had a dog and watch it die? I would guess no, because only a heartless jerk would say something like that. Why don't you get a dog, befriend it, love it and then watch it die and see if you say something like that.
