Hemp is the male form of Cannabis Sativa that can be grown for many uses and has been grown for thousands of years. Marijuana is the female Cannabis plant that is used for its psychoactive compound THC. Hemp contains no THC and is therefore useless as a recreational or medicinal drug. This plant isn�t illegal because people can abuse it; it is illegal because of its threat to the major cotton and petrochemical corporations. Other countries such as Canada, England, France, Serbia, China, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Australia have legalized hemp and do not look down upon hemp and understand it for its many uses. -The most important attribute about hemp is that it is a sustainable crop that grows very fast absorbing a lot carbon in the atmosphere, a major player in Global Warming. -It can be harvested multiple times a year without damaging the soil, and with minimal to no use of pesticides and other chemicals. - Hemp can be used for textiles which is three times the strength of cotton. - Hemp concrete which is stronger, more flexible and better insulating than regular concrete. -Hemp can be made into chip board which is like wood but it is stronger and better insulating and no trees are cut down therefore reducing deforestation. -Hemp is very nutritional with the correct ratio of omega fatty acids and also easily digestible proteins so it could help third world countries and hopefully end world hunger. -Hemp oil can be made into a clean burning bio diesel with much less emissions than regular gasoline and it would remove the dependence on foreign oil -hemp can also make four times more paper per acre than trees and can be harvested multiple times per year rather than once every 6-8 years. -hemp can be made into a strong plastic which also cuts down on the use of oils because even if we stopped driving every car in the world, it still wouldn\'t solve the oil crisis because 50 percent of the oil in the world is used for making plastics. Currently hemp in the United States is only grown for research purposes and it requires a permit to grow a stage one narcotic drug. There is no reason for hemp to be illegal in the United States and the only reason it is illegal is because of its threat to big business and corporations. I propose that with enough people and activism, hemp can become legalized in the United States where it can save the economy and the environment.

No More Styfofoam Cups!

I bet you've drinken out of a Styrofoam cup in your life. You probably just threw it away when you were done like it was no different than a paper or plastic one, or in some rude peoples' cases, littered and threw it on the ground. Well, little might you have known that Styrofoam cups don't dissolve in the Earth eventually like other materials do. It just sits there. Useless. Taking up space. Therefore, it is negligent to the environment. You CAN recycle Styrofoam, like you can paper, but it is diffucult to and takes a LONG time and is also hard to find someone who will actually do it. Styrofoam also lasts virtually forever, or at least much, much longer than we'll live to be, vs. paper, where you can recycle it a lot easier and more and it will dissolve faster. This useless material ALSO contains CFCs (Chlorofluorocarbons), which is very bad for the environment. In the end, Styrofoam is harmful to the Ozone. The Ozone, as you may know, is a form of oxygen containing three molecules (usually found in the stratoshere) and is responsible for filtering out much of the sun's dangerous ultraviolet radiation - the stuff that we put on sunscreen for. See, if we use Styrofoam, slowly but surely, it ruins the Ozone layer. That means that we can get sunburn so much easier, which can lead to skin cancer and cataracts if you get too much of it. And sure, you can load youself up with a lot more sunscreen, but if the Ozone layer gets to the point of degradation it's headed to, that won't do anything. Most companies that sell their drinks in Styrofoam cups do it because it's cheaper, but if that means hurting our children's family in the future by the sun, which would you choose? please read this, i'm an animal lover and i've been searching the net about animal abuse. there are pictures about abused animals, and i went into pet stores and checked ot how tey were cared. eventually these people WILL be caught. - over 100 pet stores have been caught of not having the right care for animals or for really bad abuse. -over 10,000 animals die every year because of anial abuse. its really sad. -and over 10,000 people have been in jail because of this. can you really think about this, if you are not the people who are abusing these animals, then can you please sighn this petition. Horses have carried man through time, and now it's the age of the auto mobile, so the horse is slaughtered. That's not right!! Horses are like angels, they carry us through the oceans of hardship... they give us wings that let us fly into the clouds of happiness, soar away, and capture our dreams.. so why slaughter them? Horse slaughter, as many know, is not a humane way of death. In fact, it is far from it, with the horses being abused and tortured from the beginning of their journey to death. Horses that go to the slaughter houses are usually sold at auctions. Here, people called �killer buyers� who work for slaughter houses, bid for the horses there and send them straight to the slaughter house without awareness of their owners. This leads to many cases of horse theft and is a problem in the United States as well as Canada. Horses are loaded up and sometimes dragged by chains into trailers, sometimes inhumane double-decker cattle trailers, which are illegal in some states. The horses Often travel hundreds of miles without food, water, or rest. These horses, once arriving at the Slaughter house, are taken out of the trailer and loaded into boxes where they are shot with a captive bolt gun, which drives a spike into their skull. These once majestic animals devoted to working for us now become human food. In a lunch session at the slaughterhouse, a horse jumped out of its pen and came unnoticed up to some slaughter men who were sitting in a circle eating some sandwiches; the horse approached and nibbled a small piece of lettuce that a man was holding in his hand. The men gave the horse some more lettuce and when the lunch period was over they were so affected by the action of the horse that not one of them was prepared to kill this creature, and it had to be sent away elsewhere � showing that within each human soul there is an element of pity, compassion and love. It is our duty to encourage the higher qualities to bloom and blossom wherever possible in each individual. Now our struggle to help our saviors begins, and hopefully will have a happy ending, when people realize that horses aren't livestock, they aren't food, but compastionate and devoted animals. -Sign this petition to save our angels-

Free ..... in Schools

All schools should get at least 10-15 free blue bins and greens bins in school. My school is trying to fund raise more money because we don\\\\\\\'t have enough money in our group to purchase them. If we had more bins we would be one step closer to making our school more green. We have a couple here and there but some students are to lazy to walk to them because they are not at their convince.

The world is facing an enormous problem. This problem could displace millions and millions of people creating the economy and overall state of living to decrease considerably. This problem could contribute to a mass extinction maybe even including our race. This problem is global warming. With all these warnings and dangers of this massive crisis who could not respond? our very own government, they have done little or nothing to prevent this catashrophe. If the people in Washington D.C. could afford to let hurricane Katrina to wipe out most of Louisiana/Mississippi I think they can afford to re-evaluate their environmental ethics. If they can afford to waste billions and billions in Iraq . I think they can afford to creat stricter gas emission laws. Please, sign this petition so all of us can live a cleaner, healthier and longer life. But, we do not have much time to attempt to stop it leading scientists say the effects of global warming could be irreversible by 2016. Make every signature count and share the site with everybody. Wolf killers couldn�t find any wolves in this area despite Alaska�s Department of Fish & Game�s (ADF&G�s) assurances that the area contained too many wolves, so ADF&G expanded the control area to provide wolves to kill. This is really just a letter that everyone should sign. All the wolves are doing is eating their natural food. They don't deserve to be shot.

Request For Info About Incinerator Near Ivybridge

It has recently come to our attention that Viridor plans to build a \'Resource Recovery Centre\' at New England Quarry Lee Mill, which is less than 2 miles from the town of Ivybridge which has a population of over 12,000 residents (15% of South Hams total population). We understand that the proposal is for the processing of 275,000 tonnes of waste each year and includes plans for a landfill, an incinerator and also an ash treatment facility to produce 62,500 tonnes a year of aggregates for the construction industry. We are concerned about possible implications of this facility on our health, environment and economy and therefore request a full public consultation to be completed before planning permission is requested or granted. We do not consider that the exhibition that took place at the Ivybridge Watermark on Tuesday 22nd September, 3pm - 8pm, as having been sufficient, as very few local people were aware of this exhibition. We request that this exhibition be held again and that all residents of Ivybridge be better notified of this event in writing, such as via a leaflet posted through their doors and by posters displayed in the local town centre. Stop Animal Abuse, Inhumane Slaughter, and Animal Testing

Help stop animal abuse. There's no reason for innocent animals to be beated, burnt, thrown out windows. forced to fight, whipped, chained up, and even killed. It has to stop. There's no way on this earth slaughter can stop completley. We need meat. Eating it is part of the food chain. But to torture the animals before you kill them and make them suffer is wrong. Cows have their throats slit while still alive and able too feel. Baby pigs are burried alive and have thier tails cut off, with no anistedic. Chickens and ducks are force fed and grow so large so quick that the can't even stand. That's not even the worst of it. They should at least make sure the animal cant feel and it killed painlessly. And their living conditions must inprove. All the animals should be able to mave freely, during travel and where they live, not crammed so tightly they can't move. At least make their lives happy while they're alive, not miserable. Like I said before, slaughter can't stop, but at least we can make it humane and painless and make the animals have a happy life before they die. Animal testing is pointless. We don't need any more make up, shampoo, or any of that stuff. we have enough and there's so need for it to be tested on animals. The testing animals go through unimmaginable pain and suffering that they really don't need to go through. PETA has a poem of lab animal's lives: Unseen they suffer. Unheard they cry. In agony they linger. In lonliness they die. That sums of the life of testing animals. You don't need to test medicine on animals either. There are better ways than harming animals. Cell structures, computer models, and willing people (which there are!) Basically, people should consider how animals feel, bucause they have feelings, just like us. Stop putting yourself so high above them. People couldn't win against many animals with out a gun. We're a lot stupider than them when it comes to surviving. People couldn't live like the animals do, without technology. So stop mistreating the animals. They have feelings, life, family, and they deserve to live equally happy lives. Do something to help. Not many of us are aware that we have much to be proud of in Horton: Buried not far beneath the placid, familial, and semi-bucolic exterior there is the full panoply of drama, exoticism and the cut and thrust of history. I am referring to the grade II listed 115 ha Horton Park Estate that was once home to a Queen of England, Katherine Parr who was fortunate to have survived her husband Henry VIII. The Queen�s relatives are entombed in the Norman Church of St Mary Magdalene. The park was landscaped by the 2nd Earl of Halifax who was also the founder of the Bank of England. Sadly his grand country seat of Horton Hall was demolished in the 30s: A less enlightened time when many important buildings were lost. Now all that remains of the personal heritage of the Earl is the park and its beautiful �eyecatchers�: the Temple and the Arches built in the 1740s high up on the lip of the park and clearly visible from the Earl�s windows, and the Menagerie, of the mid-1750s, one of Thomas Wright�s acknowledged masterpieces, where exotic animals were kept along with its function as an elegant belvedere to survey his demesne. The park is exceptional as it is a surviving example of the rococo style, a fascinating interlude (1740-70) between the semi-formal designs of William Kent and the more advanced �natural landscapes� of Capability Brown.Although what is visible today is the product of the 18th century, the Horton landscape has many unusually well-documented layers laid out on the remains of a deserted medieval village. The park is also the site of very well preserved ridge-and-furrow, running at right angles to the small streams, and is best observed at twilight on summer evenings when all its undulations come to life.If we truly value this rich and beautiful park then we must endeavour to protect it for future generations. You may think that the listing status would be sufficient to protect it, but you would be mistaken.there are many pressures on Horton now for development and encroachment on the park is a sad reality. 18th century vistas have been severely compromised by the subdivision of the park into a patchwork of fence lines and the loss of swathes of the Shrubbery that has exposed late 20th century houses. Earthworks and planting is also endangering or perhaps even destroying vital archaeology.The main concern is that any parkland as it stood at listing in 1994 and falling outside of curtilage, that is bought and enclosed, must be reinstate-able as parkland and not permanently lost or archaeology damaged. It is also vital to protect park vistas and resist the loss of the ancient Shrubbery.The crux of the matter is that unlike listed buildings, listed landscapes currently have no statutory provisions to protect them. Britain has signed up to the European Landscape Convention but again these organisations are relatively powerless. The Heritage Protection Bill, which may or may not appear in the Queen�s speech, could help address some of these failings. Meanwhile we are convinced that galvanizing local support is vital in our efforts to push forward changes necessary for the safeguarding of this important national resource.

I looked online about this topic, and in Canada, people slaughter seals as a game. It is called Whack-a-Seal and they bash their heads. Baby seals die everyday. Don\'t these animals get a chance to live their lives? They don\'t disturb us. If you think about it, we disturb so many other things. We disturb wildlife, and we can\'t even live peacefully among ourselves. So why should we kill these animals who aren\'t deserving of this punishment? No one is deserving of the horrid way they kill these animals. Please help. This NEEDS to stop. Canada\'s goverment needs to make this illegal. This is an annual event. It begins every year on March 8th. The total allowable catch for 2008 is set by the Canadian government to 275,000 harp seals, 8,200 hooded seals and 12,000 grey seals. What comes to mind when you think of “IAMS”, quality dog food? Right? But did you know what company makes “IAMS”? Procter & Gamble, the company that still does unnecessary animal testing. Surprised? I was. Just last month I bought a bag of “IAMS” to donate to a local animal shelter. Ironic, buying a product to feed lost/abused dogs, from a company that abuses animals in the worst way. I stopped buying Procter & Gamble products years ago, when I first realized how unnecessary animal testing is. Ex: A bunny, her eyes are taped wide open, and a stinging liquid (Laundry detergent), is being dripped into her open eyes. The test was/is done to see how much laundry detergent is needed, before the animal goes blind, or her eyes are completely burned out. The test showed: Laundry detergent is damaging when splashed into eyes. Really? No way! Remember the last time you accidentally splashed some water into your eyes, uncomfortable at best, right? Can’t imagine the pain that animal was in. If a person is stupid enough to splash Laundry detergent into his/her eyes, no amount of testing, and torturing small animals will change that. In 2002 alone, 1,438,553 animals were used. 70% of them died in testing or in just the bad condition they are kept in.

However, according to the Board of Games, apparently, this still endangered species is growing too much in Alaska. The organization decided to allow up to 900 wolves to be killed by the barbaric practice of aerial gunning. This brings us to the point of this petition: the slaughter must stop. The Greyhound racing industry is inherently cruel. Greyhound racing is a form of gaming in which the amount of money a dog generates determines his or her expendability. The answer for greyhounds is neither regulation nor adoption of "retired" dogs, but the elimination of the greyhound racing industry. In the 21st century greyhounds in the racing world are prized for only one thing—speed. In 2003 alone, an estimated 7,500 to 20,000 greyhounds were euthanized simply because they couldn't run fast enough. It's is an industry that exists solely for the entertainment of humans—at the cost of animal lives. "Greyhound racing is cruel and inhumane and should be outlawed nationwide," says Carey Theil, president of GREY2K USA, a national anti-greyhound-racing group based in Massachusetts that has partnered with The HSUS and the ASPCA to form the National Greyhound Legislative Coalition. Because greyhound racing has little to do with dogs and everything to do with money, scant regard is given to the humane treatment of the greyhounds. "This is an industry that places profits above the health and welfare of greyhounds," says Theil. How else would you explain the culling of unwanted dogs, a general disregard toward animal injury, and the inhumane living conditions that the dogs endure? Struggling to Survive Greyhounds are at a disadvantage even before they are born. Tens of thousands of greyhounds are bred annually, many more than are needed to race, in an attempt to create the fastest dogs. The greyhounds are then "weeded out"—killed if they are at any time determined unable to become racetrack stars. "From the time they are born, they are judged for their racing ability," says Laura Bevan, director of the Southeast Regional Office of The HSUS. "As puppies they may be killed, or culled, if they don't have potential to be good racers. After that, any injury or slow down of speed can mean death. The dogs are a commercial product, and once it is determined that they don't have value as a racer at a track, their days are numbered." Throughout their racing career, the dogs routinely endure inhumane conditions and have little human contact. "Many greyhound farms are barely getting by financially, so the dogs are kept caged most of the time and fed low quality foods. Each dog is a major expense, which is why so many are killed when they are deemed unfit to race," says Bevan. In addition, greyhounds are very vulnerable to injury. According to Theil, thousands of racing dogs are injured each year nationwide. The most common miseries are bone fractures and soft tissue injuries. Less common afflictions include spinal injuries, seizures, and death from cardiac arrest. A National Disgrace Greyhound racing is not an isolated occurrence—tracks exist legally in almost every part of the nation, from New England to the Rockies. Currently 15 states operate greyhound tracks: Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Iowa, Kansas, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Oregon, Rhode Island, Texas, West Virginia and Wisconsin. Florida tops the list with 16 tracks. Luckily for greyhounds and animal lovers, greyhound racing is on the way out. "Over the last three years, we have defeated every major attempt to subsidize dog racing nationwide," Theil says. What's more, attendance at racetracks is dwindling and revenue has decreased significantly. During the 1990s, the total amount wagered on greyhound racing fell a staggering 45%. As a result, many tracks have looked to make up lost revenue through slot machines, video lottery terminals, and other forms of gambling. Anti-greyhound-racing groups have undoubtedly helped force the industry into this slump. These groups exist for one simple reason: to stop greyhound racing. A recent victory occurred on May 24, 2004, when Pennsylvania Governor Edward Rendell signed a law banning greyhound racing in the state. Since Pennsylvania doesn't currently operate any tracks, this may seem insignificant in the fight against greyhound racing. But, according to Ellie Sciurba, president of Pennsylvania Citizens Against Greyhound Racing, the law is monumental because it is a proactive measure that allows the state to be "a role model, declaring that greyhound racing is not an acceptable form of human entertainment." The law also prevents Pennsylvania from becoming involved in greyhound racing in the future. Pennsylvania joins Idaho, Maine, North Carolina, Nevada, Vermont, Virginia and Washington as states that have banned live greyhound racing. To the Rescue As awareness of the plight of greyhounds grows, rescue groups have formed all over the country in an attempt to place unwanted greyhounds into loving homes. Greg Parr, who four years ago adopted Patch, a retired greyhound, describes him as "gentle and always happy." "We met Patch at the home of the wonderful family that fostered him after he was brought to Maryland from the race track in Florida, and decided immediately that he should become part of our family," says Parr. As Parr can attest, greyhounds tend to be excellent companion animals, and their easygoing nature makes them ideal for families with children. "Greyhounds are truly wonderful dogs," says Bevan. "They are generally gentle, graceful, beautiful animals." However, Bevan emphasizes that because of the way greyhounds are raised, guardians should realize that the dogs may require extra attention. "Some greyhounds have had little socialization before being offered for adoption, and can have trouble adjusting to the life as a companion animal," she says. "And, because some dogs have been trained to race using live lures, some evaluation should be done to make sure they are safe around small animals such as cats. Overall though, they are incredibly wonderful dogs with a lot of love to give." Not only the Dogs, but innocent Rabits and Jackrabbits too are being torturd! Greyhound training activities have been known to maim and kill thousands of domestic rabbits and wild jackrabbits every year. (This estimate is based on HSUS investigations into the illegal importation of rabbits as well as the use of animals in training events.) One particular event known as "coursing" involves greyhounds chasing, terrorizing and eventually killing rabbits within fenced enclosures. Some industry representatives argue that this activity enhances the dogs' racing ability because they'll develop a "taste for blood." But greyhounds are sight, not blood, hounds, and their inclination to run is instigated by a moving object, not the scent of blood. The use of live lures is not permitted in at least 16 states, but such laws are difficult to enforce. Historically speaking, greyhounds are the most revered species of dog. Eliminating greyhound racing and the cruel practices that surround the sport will ensure that these beautiful dogs live out their lives in dignity, like they should be able to. Stop Cosmetic Testing On Animals

Every year, millions of animals suffer and die in painful tests to determine the safety of cosmetics. Substances such as eye shadow and soap are tested on rabbits, rats, guinea pigs, dogs, and other animals, despite the fact that the test results don’t help prevent or treat human illness or injury. Cosmetics are not required to be tested on animals and since non-animal alternatives exist, it’s hard to understand why some companies still continue to conduct these tests. Cosmetic companies kill millions of animals every year to try to make a profit. According to the companies that perform these tests, they are done to establish the safety of a product and the ingredients. However, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) which regulates cosmetic products, does not require animal testing. Some of the tests used on animals are eye irritancy tests, acute toxicity tests, and skin irritancy tests. In eye irritancy tests, a liquid, flake, granule, or powdered substance is dropped into the eyes of a group of albino rabbits. The animals are often immobilized in stocks from which only their heads protrude. They usually receive no anesthesia during the tests. After placing the substance into the rabbits eyes, lab technicians record the damage to the eye tissue at specific intervals over an average period of 72 hours. The tests sometimes last seven to eighteen days. Reactions to the substances include swollen eyelids, ulceration, bleeding, swollen irises massive deterioration, and blindness. During the tests, rabbits eyelids are usually held open with clips, because of this, many animals try to break their necks as they try to escape. Acute toxicity tests, commonly called lethal dose or poisoning tests, determine the amount of a substance that will kill a percentage, even up to one-hundred percent, of a group of test animals. In these tests, a substance is forced by tube into the animals stomach or through holes cut in their throats. Experimenters observe the animals reactions which can include convulsions, labored breathing, malnutrition, skin eruptions, and bleeding from the eyes, nose, or mouth. The test was developed in 1927 and the testing continues until at least fifty percent of the animals die (usually takes 2-4 weeks). Like eye irritancy tests, lethal dose tests are unreliable and have too many variables to have a constant result. Skin irritancy tests are conducted on rabbits, guinea pigs and other animals. The process involves placing chemicals on the animals raw, shaved skin and covering the skin with adhesive plaster. The animals are immobilized in restraining devices to prevent them from struggling. Meanwhile, laboratory workers apply the chemicals which burn into the animals skin. Alternatives to cosmetic testing are less expensive and generally more reliable to perform. Animals have different biological systems than humans therefore the tests can’t be as accurate as the current tests. Some alternatives include cell cultures, tissue cultures, corneas from eye banks, and sophisticated computer and mathematical models. Companies can also devise a formula using ingredients already proven safe by the Food and Drug Administration. Most cruelty-free companies use a combination of methods to ensure the safety of a product. Lobbying by animal welfare groups has resulted in federal, state, and local legislation severely restricting animal experimentation. For example, under the U.S. Animal welfare act, all animals used in biomedical research must be bought from vendors licensed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The USDA inspects laboratories where animals are used and enforces federal laws regarding treatment and care of the animals. Biomedical scientists have also taken action to prevent the abuse of the animals, mostly because abused animals may not provide reliable data. The American Physiological Society, the National Institutes of Health, and many other scientific organizations have joined to lay down guidelines for the use and treatment of experimental animals. Now, there are also many universities with animal welfare committees. In the United States survey by the American Medical Association, it was found that 75 percent of Americans are against using animals in cosmetic testing. Hundreds of companies have responded by switching to animal-friendly test methods. To help put an end to animal testing, people can stop buying products that were tested on animals. You can also call and write to these companies, or write to your congressional representative about the alternatives that can be used. There is no such thing as a bad breed. Just bad owners. ---- Due to the recent attempt to get Pit Bulls banned in California, I am starting a petition AGAINST that ban. Why? Pit Bulls are simply one breed that have had a VERY bad reputation. The truth is, it is not simply a breed or instinct in a dog that makes it bite a human. It is the reaction the dog makes to being THREATENED. Often times when a Pit Bull bites a child, the child is unsupervised, or not being watched closely. Young children do not know how to act around dogs. They will tug on their ears, tails, pull their hair, jump on them, poke them... and the dog, in this case a Pit Bull, feels threatened. "The dog just bit the child out of no where!" No. The dog felt threatened, simply because the child did not understand. If the parent had been paying attention to the child, they would have noticed and stopped the child before the dog bit the kid. "The dog could attack at any moment." Wrong again. Pit Bulls, all dogs too, react for a reason. NEVER does a dog act without feeling some kind of threat or is attacked itself. Also, irradicating a breed does not solve dog bites from happening. In fact, there is NO REASON to ban a certain breed of dog due to their reputation. You could simply enfource a law that says dogs must be muzzled when out of their house. That certainly solves the problem, now, doesn't it? "But the dog could get loose!" That, is the OWNERS fault. Not the dogs. Punishing the dog for something it's owner did does not solve anything. There was once two Pit Bulls trained for Search and Rescue. They were training with their owner one day when one of the Pit Bulls ran off, sensing something. A storm was approaching and the dog got frightened. It ran to a near by golfing course, unable to find its way back, and came up to a golfer wagging its tail. The golfer, in turn, smashed the dog's skull with his golf club. Why? He states that he "saw a Pit Bull running towards him and protected" himself. Now, if a poodle were to run up to you, would you hit it with a golf club? There is no reason to kill, ban, or hurt an animal merely because it has a bad reputation. If a human bites someone, is their family banned? In Denver Colorado last year, police were coming into homes and taking away any Pit Bull dog they found without warning the owner ahead of time. Without even giving the dogs A CHANCE, they euthanized it, then left a mere note on the owner's door. One of the dogs euthanized was a one month old Pit Bull puppy, owned by a mother and her 7 year-old daughter.

it's not right just to kill animals if they don't get sold after they have been sitting in the humane society for a long time! the animal still has a chance to get adopted! the right person just hasen't come along yet! the dog has already been through enough.(the original family dropping off and leaving them there, having an owner that doesn't want them, being abused, living on the street, etc.) that's just no reson to put an animal to sleep. quit using that as an excuse!
