Two years ago a student cyclist was killed in a collision with a refuse truck on the Holywell St/Parks Road junction outside the King\'s Arms pub in Oxford. The council spent some time with the university representatives to find ways of improving safety at the junction and concluded that the best way to proceed would be to create a \"shared-space\" - similar to one outside the shopping centre on Queen St. But they wanted to incorporate this into a major re-design of Broad St, which (given the current financial crisis) is quite a long way away. In the meantime, the council is doing nothing about the most terrifying road junction in central Oxford, despite admitting an increase in the number of accidents reported on the junction. This junction causes immense distress to road users, who rightly perceive it as very unsafe. The fact is that the junction is dangerous for cyclists and pedestrians, because traffic lights give no clear indication to them of when to cross safely. Hundreds of road users every day have to double-guess each others actions and this can be fatal once again if someone is in a rush. The junction is completely unsuitable for road users with disabilities, particularly those with hearing and visual impairments. Disabled users are forced to use other road junctions (e.g. Parks Rd/South Parks Rd), which limits their freedom of movement. This means we cannot wait for the next accident to happen. The council must drop its excuses and act now. We demand: 1) An urgent review of road user safety of the Holywell St/Broad St/Catte St/Parks Rd junction outside the King\'s Arms pub in Oxford. 2) An immediate installation of cyclist and pedestrian lights on the junction. 3) A new configuration of traffic lights sequence, which will ensure safety and peace of mind for all road users. 4) Ensure that the new pedestrian crossings are fully suitable for disabled road users, in particular, by providing audible signals.

Vegetarian Options for School Lunches

Lunches in our school district not just commonly, but Nintey percent of the time include meat not only in the Non-Salad line, but even in the salad line. It is indeed a rarity for a meatless salad, and For the Vegetarians in the school, one should be made available. Its not right that commonly the only meat free meal is a Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich, and there should be a salad equivalent every day for a Meat Free Salad. Yeah people can pick the meat out of their salads but who would get a lunch that they have to personally pick apart just to ensure there\'s no meat in it? Especially when every other group has a care-free get it and eat it lunch. There may not be many Vegetarians in the school, but its not like we\'re asking for veggie burgers, All we want is a Daily Meat Free Salad. We hope you will see this. Better Handicap parking at Darnall AMC

This is to petition CRDAMC to modify the front parking area to accommodate people with disabilities. The parking lot currently has the entire first row dedicated to expectant mothers. The handicap parking is row six and spaced so that there are half as many parking places to accommodate wheelchairs. In researching this I found the following statement: Walking during pregnancy is one of the simplest and easiest ways to maintain your fitness levels and help promote a fast and easy labor. While walking won\'t guarantee a quick labor, it will help improve your endurance and help you recover much more quickly from the trials and tribulations of birth. Most doctors recommend that pregnant women engage in some form of regular exercise. People with disabilities regardless of type, providing they have the sticker or plates, should have the closer spaces and there should be more spaces available to them. I propose that the first two rows go to people with disabilities and the third row then to expectant mothers. Please keep in mind also that many of the people with disabilities not only have to park far away, they may have to make the walk several times. Depending on why they are there, to schedule appointments, to get a prescription filled, for tests. Each one can and does mean multiple trips. And many of these people that deserve the disabled parking are our veterans that are disabled for serving our country. So let\'s go one step further, the first row should be dedicated to disabled veterans, the second row to the disabled and the third row to expectant mothers.

I have created this petition not only to raise awareness of hidden animal products, but also to help aid in the lobbying to have the Labeling laws changed to state what these mysterious additives really are. You wouldn�t pick up a bug and eat it would you? You actually might be doing this and not even know it! The additive Cochineal extract and carmine are used to dye food, drinks, and even cosmetics different shades of red, pink, orange, and purple and are extracted from the dried bodies of the female cochineal bug which can be found in Peru and the Canary Islands. It is my belief that the Canadian government should insure that Canadian consumers are aware of any animal or bug products used as an additive in your food. It is why I am asking all of you to sign the petition to make it required for manufactures in Canada to label all food containing bugs and other animal products to state that they contain such additives. This is particularly important for vegetarians. The next time you dig into a Yoplait Strawberry yogurt, take a second and think about it, how did it get such a pretty pink color, from strawberries? Here are the facts. Tobacco is a known human carcinogen (cancer-causing agent) that causes one death every EIGHT minutes. There are a total of 4000 chemical compounds- 250 of which are harmful, 50 of which contribute to cancer, and 11 of which are group one carcinogens (which means they definitely cause cancer). Some of these disgusting chemicals include; ambergris (whale vomit), arsenic (poison), radioactive lead, and hydrogen cyanide (which was used in World War II as a genocidal chemical agent). We all know that cigarettes are gross, probably including the people who smoke it. But what some of us fail to realize is how it can severely affect the people around us. In one year in the U.S. alone, secondhand smoke is responsible for the death of 46,000 heart disease deaths and about 3,000 lung cancer deaths. This does not include the thousands who are hospitalized or treated for these problems. Secondhand smoke is also a huge problem for those who have breathing problems already such as asthma or severe allergies. *** PLEASE HELP US ASK CHIPOTLE TO USE TONGS!! (WE LOVE CHIPOTLE) *** INTRODUCTION: Chipotle Mexican Grill serves delicious, fresh Mexican-inspired food -- most of which is naturally gluten free. As a result, many people with Celiac Disease (\"Celiacs\") such as myself eat there frequently. However, each time I do eat at a Chipotle is a stressful and sometimes dangerous experience because of the serious reactions I get from eating gluten (which is a component of wheat). THE PROBLEM: The only food items served by Chipotle that contain wheat/gluten are the flour tortillas...so it should be easy to keep cross-contamination of the wheat/gluten to a minimum. The only thing getting in the way of making Chipotle much safer for Celiacs like myself, and others with gluten intolerance, is the fact that the servers who prepare the food handle the flour tortillas with their hands AND THEN ALSO grab the cheese and lettuce with their hands. They are wearing gloves, but the gloves are not changed between handling the flour tortillas and the cheese/lettuce. THE SOLUTION: The solution is SIMPLE. Chipotle should instruct all their servers to use TONGS to serve cheese and lettuce. That way they would not be contaminating the food every time they touch a burrito and then touch the cheese or lettuce. They should also instruct their servers to either never touch the inside of the paper bowls with their gloves, since it\'s usually the same staff member warming the tortillas and putting the paper bowl (for buritto bowls) on the counter. The staff should also not handle the hard taco shells with their hands unless their gloves have been changed since handling flour tortillas (they could use tongs for this as well). THE NEXT LEVEL: If Chipotle gets the message, and if they REALLY want to make their restaurants a safe place for Celiacs and the gluten intolerant to eat, then they should consider working with the Gluten Free Restaurant Awareness Program (GFRAP) run by the Gluten Intolerance Group (GIG), a national association of support groups and restaurants which has standardized procedures in place to assist restaurants who wish to prepare gluten free food safely. The Dutchess County Board of Health wishes to amend article 5 Section 5.6 of the Dutchess County Sanitary Code So that \\\"effective January 1, 2011 all public water supplies serving 10,000 or greater consumers in Dutchess County will maintain a fluoride concentration in water available to consumers at a level recommended by the New York State Department of Health.\\\" The amendment was revised on August 26, 2009 yet not presented to the public until almost THREE(3) months later. Read the proposed amendment here: www.co.dutchess.ny.us/CountyGov/Departments/Health/HDPublicHearingArticle5Sect56.pdf This amendment DOES NOT specify what the level will be and neglects to take into account the risks as outlined in the accompanying 49 published health studies such as: Increased hip fracture in the elderly specifically males Neurotoxicity Lowered intelligence in children Depletion in brain membrane Earlier onset of sexual maturity Osteosarcoma (bone cancer) Chromosomal abnormalities Reduced birth rates Lymphoma Increase in downs syndrome of babies born to mothers with fluoride exposure. The New York Department of Health HAS NOT stated why it REFUSED to answer 33 specific questions about flouride safety and efficacy as posed by the city of Poughkeepsie ( which lead the City of Poughkeepsie to discontinue flouride use in February of 2008). Both the State and County Departments of Health neglect the LARGEST and most Comprehensive study {Recommendations for flouride use in children. Kumar,J.V. and Greedn, E.L.New York State Dent.J. (1998) 40-47} which concluded \\\" NO SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCE in caries(cavities) in fluoridated, non-fluoridated and partially fluoridated communities. As the State and County Departments of Health tout the benefits of flouride and the savings in Medicaid dental treatment costs why then are they not FORCING every water supply in the County or State to fluoridate?
