Solve Global Warming!

We know that global warming threatens our way of life. According to scientists the window of opportunity to avoid the worst effects of global warming is quickly closing. The time for action is now.

To stop the worst effects of global warming, we need to reduce global warming pollution at least 25-40% below 1990 levels by 2020.

As of now, our biggest bill to date was A.C.E.S (American Clean Energy and Security Act), but that has been put on the back-burner with Senator Kerry and Senator Boxer\'s bill, Clean Energy Jobs and American Power Act, taking the lead. With both these bills being highly contested, it is nevertheless necessary for our country to lead the way in solving this crisis.

*This petition is asking President Obama to please lead the world in solving Climate Change at the Climate Conference in Copenhagen this December.

stamp

Honorable Minister of the Environment Jim Prentice,

STAMP – Students Taking Action for Medicine and Peace – speaks from the grassroots of McGill Medical and Dental faculties, as well as for all students and others who are profoundly concerned about climate change, and the effects it will increasingly have on all of us. From its global impact on health and ecology, livelihoods and social stability, the devastating toll of climate change will begin with the world’s poorest and most vulnerable, but will inevitably reach developed countries such as Canada. In our petition to you, we echo and emphasize the concerns of the Canadian Federation of Medical Students, in their open letter to you. Here we include some of the salient points relating to the health and wellbeing of people around the world, and in Canada:

…Malnutrition, heat-stress, diarrheal disease, extreme weather events, infectious disease, population displacement, and conflict over depleted resources are all expected to increase as a result of climate change… up to half of the world’s population could face severe food shortages by 2100… climate change has the potential to displace 200 million people by 2050, an almost twenty-fold increase in the number of refugees worldwide today…

…According to Health Canada… climate change will bring with it an increased risk of extreme weather, frequency and severity of heat waves, infectious disease and diminished air quality…the Ontario Medical Association estimates that each year 5,800 Ontarians die prematurely, 60,000 visit the emergency room and 16,000 are admitted to hospital as a result of smog…

…Canadians now emit over 22 tonnes of CO2 equivalents per capita – among the highest in the world… Earlier this year, the World Wildlife Fund ranked Canada as having the worst performance out of all G8 countries in terms of CO2 emissions and climate policy…

We are deeply unsettled by Canada’s reticence thus far to take a leadership role in finding a global resolution to this grave problem. This December the world will gather in Copenhagen, providing an opportunity to limit the impacts of climate change, and offering Canada an occasion to reverse its dismal climate change record and reputation.
We call on the government of Canada to help create and adhere to a fair, ambitious, and binding global treaty at the Copenhagen summit on the effects of climate change. We ask the government of Canada to take meaningful steps towards reducing emissions, for the wellbeing of not only Canadians and Canada, but that of the entire world community and ecology.
As Canadians deeply concerned about our present and future, we ask you to make these and other responsible and brave choices in Copenhagen this December,

STAMP – Students Taking Action for Medicine and Peace, and all signatories of this petition.

GW Endowment Transparency, Shareholder Engagement

A more transparent record of GW’s endowment would provide a platform for a more sustainable university, promoting dialog among members of the university community and a forum to express concerns about investments. We believe this is an important step for the GW administration to take because it will not only effectively improve our overall grade on the Green Report Card and make our university more of a leader among environmentally friendly universities, it will also foster a more productive campus-wide conversation about promoting sustainability at GW. We feel this is key as our university seeks to involve more students, faculty, and on-campus organizations in the effort to make GW a more sustainable, green university.

Trayless Thursday approval

Many college and university cafeterias in the United States are going “Trayless.” Green Team and the rest of the students committed to sustainable practices here at the University of Saint Thomas believe that it would be in the school’s best interest to have tray free cafeterias at least one day a week. When this project is complete and “Trayless Thursdays” become a permanent event at the University of Saint Thomas, the school will be on its way to a much more sustainable and cost efficient campus. Some benefits include: Less dishes to wash/conserving water, wasting less food/ lessening food waste per student, saving money due to less food waste in the cafeterias. Each student saves 12 cents of food waste when they don’t use a tray, and cumulatively the student body could save thousands of pounds of food waste if the University of St. Thomas goes trayless.

Ninety Percent Less Means Ninety Percent Cleaner

We, the undersigned, petition the New South Wales state government to introduce a legislated plastic bag levy across all NSW supermarkets and major retailers. The Ninety Percent Project hopes that by adopting a mandatory levy to be passed on entirely to consumers, NSW will reduce its plastic bag usage by 90% within five years, thus promoting a cleaner and healthier environment with more environmentally aware citizens.

Each year, Australian consumers use over 6.9 billion plastic bags, of which 50 to 80 billion inadvertently and deliberately end up as part of the litter stream. They are Australia\'s highest volume \'add-on\' packaging. Plastic bags thus represent unnecessary environmental damage, including:
- pollution caused from the production process, including release of toxic chemicals
- clean up costs, which amount to AU$200 million per annum for local and state governments
- pollution of waterways and marine ecosystems
- visual pollution
- threat to land and marine animals through ingestion
- greater concentration of toxic compounds in marine environments

Government around the world, from Ireland to Italy to Taiwan, have introduced a range of ways to deal with the environmental concerns presented by plastic bags. Ireland under the Waste Management (Environmental Levy) (Plastic Bag) Regulations 2001 introduced a levy in March 2002 that required all retailers pass on the full amount to consumers. Since then, there has been an average 94% reduction in plastic bag consumption and suggested changes to overall consumer behaviour with regards to plastic bag use.

Australia needs to take action now on this widely-held environmental concern of the community. Plastic bags are an established part of Australian shopping but they do not need to constitute a problem to the ever-growing amount of environmental issues currently facing Australian society. Therefore, we propose that the NSW state government takes initiative and adopt a levy to decrease plastic bag consumption, to reduce environmental damage and to change consumer behaviour.

Ninety Percent Less Means Ninety Percent Cleaner.

The Village Urgently Needs Your Help

Please Act NOW: The Village Urgently Needs Your Help To Avoid Major Local Disruption!

A planning application has been submitted to convert a site on Welham Lane, Great Bowden to be used as a site to accommodate trade effluents, recycling, composting and storage for 20 heavy trade vehicles. The site is proposed to open at 5:30am, every morning, seven days a week including bank holidays, housing 89 personnel.
A small number of residents received a letter on October 20th, inviting responses by November 10th. All documents relating to this proposal are available via www.harborough.gov.uk/planning (ref: 09/01253/FUL)

Alarmingly, the company involved, FOCSA, has already moved into the premises and begun operating before any residents were even notified.

The major issues include: smell, air pollution, traffic, vermin, noise and access.

Please lend your support to the campaign by writing a letter and responding via the website.

For any further details regarding this application, please contact local residents Pete Goold on 07830 236824 or Lynn Wilson on 07753 819 306, local councillor Sarah Hill 01858 431 993 or Phil Knowles on 07710 026 392.

A village meeting is being arranged at present for Tues Nov 3rd at 7pm in Great Bowden Church Hall. Please contact the above for more details.

Request For Info About Incinerator Near Ivybridge

It has recently come to our attention that Viridor plans to build a \'Resource Recovery Centre\' at New England Quarry Lee Mill, which is less than 2 miles from the town of Ivybridge which has a population of over 12,000 residents (15% of South Hams total population).

We understand that the proposal is for the processing of 275,000 tonnes of waste each year and includes plans for a landfill, an incinerator and also an ash treatment facility to produce 62,500 tonnes a year of aggregates for the construction industry.

We are concerned about possible implications of this facility on our health, environment and economy and therefore request a full public consultation to be completed before planning permission is requested or granted. We do not consider that the exhibition that took place at the Ivybridge Watermark on Tuesday 22nd September, 3pm - 8pm, as having been sufficient, as very few local people were aware of this exhibition. We request that this exhibition be held again and that all residents of Ivybridge be better notified of this event in writing, such as via a leaflet posted through their doors and by posters displayed in the local town centre.

We also request that a follow-up public meeting take place following the exhibition, to give residents the chance to discuss any concerns with Viridor and the local council, after they have had time to digest the information presented at the exhibition.

We are here talking to our neighbors today to touch base with you about our proposed park improvement project that is currently in the city’s entitlement process.
Your proximity to us - literally having the park as an extension of your backyard - gives you a perspective that is much different than the average person.
Do you have a few minutes to talk?
(If “No”) Is there another time that would be more convenient for you?
(If “No”) Thank you. Here’s an informational brochure for you. If you ever have any questions or concerns about the park please don’t hesitate to contact us at any time.
(If “Yes” begin script)
For quite some time now the park has been planning a whole host of improvements that will provide much needed recreational opportunities for our youth and the community while affording us the necessary revenues to continue our mission.

Here is a question people ask, Are we saving animals, just so we can slaughter them? Animals, endangered or not are important to the world and to us. How can a starfish lose an arm, and be able to grow it back? That could help us humans, but would nearly wipe out starfish if we found out how, Every animal plays an important role in the ecosystem, and it is up to us to save the animal populations which we humans have interfered with.

Prevent architects building blocks of crap!

Ever looked at a modern skyscraper, or the new building blocks cast out of cheap, plain panels of aluminum composite... and just felt overcome with disgust and the fierce urge to knock it down? ...
Notice how plain and square everything seems to be nowadays? When compared to buildings constructed by architects dating back way before the modern day, from the Victorians...the renaissance period, even right back to the Tudors! And now tell me which is more attractive... Seriously, after all these years of experience... could you honestly believe that today\\\\\\\'s architecture is what it is after all these years?
Take for instance monstrosities such as the Guggenheim, Salmiya Hotel and everyone\\\\\\\'s favourite, the Ferrari World (sigh)...
Personally I find it absolutely appalling... these designers seem devoid of any true imagination or awareness of visual pollution.
Do they simply not trouble to look at what else can be created when one puts his mind to it? There are some truly awe-inspiring masterpieces out there... and they were built rather a long time ago... It does make one wonder just what the Hell happened?? Did the true artistic masterminds suddenly die out? Are the modern architects simply too lazy to follow their ingenious predecessors?
These days they\\\\\\\'re much too content to slap a load of cheap, uninspiring rubbish together and call it a building before gaining a ridiculously high fee for their \\\\\\\'work\\\\\\\'.

Why would you settle for something so hideous to behold, when you could have the more elaborate, intriguing and beautiful constructs...that seem now almost like something out of a fairytale...
But they do still exist! Help to protect them! And bring forth the beauty to be wondered at within today\\\\\\\'s architecture!

1,438,553 animals were used in research in 2002, larger animals like dogs, cats, and primates usually live in wire cages, in China people kill raccoons by grabbing them by their back legs and smashing their heads into the hard ground until just barely living, when testing a new makeup product scientists cut out a rabbit\\\'s eyeballs. These are just some examples of why I, one person is trying to stop animal cruetly/abuse/testing. Animals have feelings to, let\\\'s acknowledge them
I\\\'m sick of hearing about tons of animals who die from abuse. Honestly, I cry over animals being abused. Let\\\'s do something about this.

Save UH Campus Tree!

The life of a unique historic UH Manoa campus tree is threatened by construction plans for a new recreational facility next to Campus Center at the University of Hawai`i at Manoa. Dr. Joseph Rock, the first botany professor at UH Manoa, planted the Weeping Fig roughly 100 years ago.

The tree is located between Miller Hall Annex and Campus Center and is in danger as a result of the Campus Center Renovation and Expansion Project. The UH Landscape Advisory Committee, which is made up of faculty and staff of the university; the Outdoor Circle, a citizens group involved in issues concerning the local public environment and more than 750 students have signed a paper petition and are against the tree\'s removal.

Stop PetsPlus USA from using puppy mills!!!!

PetsPlus USA, along with hundreds of other companies, are selling puppies from puppy mills. My goal is for PetsPlus USA to STOP using puppy mills!! Please help these poor defenseless puppies! So much for “man’s best friend”, huh? What’s so bad about puppy mills?

1. THOUSANDS of breeding dogs are kept in cages just big enough for them to be put into and stand on stretched wire flooring in cramped rabbit hutches.

2. They wear rusted livestock clips in their ears or chains with USDA tags embedded in their necks

3. They are denied food & water because they have grown too old to sell.

4. These poor animals struggle to stay alive, and are forced to reproduce in means of survival.

5. Once they are no longer of use, they are shot behind barns, and submerged into barrels of stagnant rainwater.

6. Unable to compete with the newest litters of seven week olds, several puppies are destroyed at five or six months of age.

No one deserves to be treated like this. 99% of the dogs sold in pet stores come from puppy mills, and many of the worst in the country are in Lancaster County! There are SO many stores that need to be stopped, but I am just trying to stop one: PetsPlus USA.

So, by signing this petition, you are agreeing to the statement that PetsPlus USA is using puppy mills and they NEED TO STOP!!!!

Save The Grey Wolf!

We all know that global warming is the famous news headline recently. However, do any of you know what that means? It means that within a short time, the Earth will warm up, the polar ice caps will melt, the shoreline will move inland, rivers will dry up, and many plants and animals will become extinct! And to make matters worse, some animals, the Grey Wolf, for example, aren\'t even on the endangered species list, and aren\'t protected, even though the SHOULD! There aren\'t many Grey Wolves left, and we should try to save the ones we have. Wolves are part of the ecosystemical balance, we need them as predators to keep the lower branches from growing too far in one direction! We also need them to keep the world as it is, we all see what happened when some other animals dissappeared completely...don\'t let it happen to our majestic, powerful wolves...save them, please!

Save Mesnes Field

The Mesnes Playing Field is a green urban space for all to enjoy. Peace and tranquility is the purpose and still remains undeveloped in 2009.

We can trace the field back to the 1800\'s, where an agreement was made for it\'s use for recreational pleasure. It falls in the Mesnes Conservation Area and share\'s a green neighbour in Mesnes Park.

A proposed development has been planned to build a boys/girls club on the site. This completely disregards any heritage value, it\'s conservation status and also the fact that people still have that bit of open land to use at their leisure. We surely want to keep it this way.

By no means are we against the club, just the location. Wigan is big enough to cater for everything, so we suggest that using a redundant brownfield site would suffice. There\'s many to choose from.

By signing this petition, you are agreeing to the fact that you want the Mesnes Field to remain as is for all time. It was created for the people, so let\'s keep it.

Regards,

Mesnes Conservation Area Action Group

Animal Birth Control Bill

In this petition, I am asking government officials to propose a Bill to be passed that enacts stricter spay and neuter laws and harsher punishment to those who violoate these laws. This Bill is related to PETA\'s Animal Birth Control Act which has been created to help solve the overbreeding crisis many animals are facing. This Bill would prevent more countless dogs and cats to be born without hope of finding homes. It also gives hope to those animals in shelters just waiting for the oppurtunity to have a home. Please join me in making a difference in the lives of animals.

Team Fortress 2.

Maroknyi eltökélt csapatommal most azért folyamodunk, hogy testvériség uralkodjon magyar viszonyokban a Team Fortress 2-ben.

Engem a TF2-s közösség érdekel!

Testvéreim! Kérlek támogassátok a petíciót szavazatotokkal, hogy újra mindenki boldogan játszhasson 2008 legjobb Multiplayer játékával!

*Mielött más mondaná, nem a képszerkesztést helyeztem fö; célul magam elé! Igen, nincsen hosszú \"ö\" és \"ü\".
