Here are the facts. Tobacco is a known human carcinogen (cancer-causing agent) that causes one death every EIGHT minutes. There are a total of 4000 chemical compounds- 250 of which are harmful, 50 of which contribute to cancer, and 11 of which are group one carcinogens (which means they definitely cause cancer). Some of these disgusting chemicals include; ambergris (whale vomit), arsenic (poison), radioactive lead, and hydrogen cyanide (which was used in World War II as a genocidal chemical agent). We all know that cigarettes are gross, probably including the people who smoke it. But what some of us fail to realize is how it can severely affect the people around us. In one year in the U.S. alone, secondhand smoke is responsible for the death of 46,000 heart disease deaths and about 3,000 lung cancer deaths. This does not include the thousands who are hospitalized or treated for these problems. Secondhand smoke is also a huge problem for those who have breathing problems already such as asthma or severe allergies. And for those of you who breathe just fine- you are still at risk for lung and heart problems because scientific evidence shows that there is NO SAFE LEVEL of exposure to secondhand smoke. The student council is currently discussing the restriction of smoking on campus, but it won\'t get very far without your help! *** PLEASE HELP US ASK CHIPOTLE TO USE TONGS!! (WE LOVE CHIPOTLE) *** INTRODUCTION: Chipotle Mexican Grill serves delicious, fresh Mexican-inspired food -- most of which is naturally gluten free. As a result, many people with Celiac Disease (\"Celiacs\") such as myself eat there frequently. However, each time I do eat at a Chipotle is a stressful and sometimes dangerous experience because of the serious reactions I get from eating gluten (which is a component of wheat). THE PROBLEM: The only food items served by Chipotle that contain wheat/gluten are the flour tortillas...so it should be easy to keep cross-contamination of the wheat/gluten to a minimum. The only thing getting in the way of making Chipotle much safer for Celiacs like myself, and others with gluten intolerance, is the fact that the servers who prepare the food handle the flour tortillas with their hands AND THEN ALSO grab the cheese and lettuce with their hands. They are wearing gloves, but the gloves are not changed between handling the flour tortillas and the cheese/lettuce. THE SOLUTION: The solution is SIMPLE. Chipotle should instruct all their servers to use TONGS to serve cheese and lettuce. That way they would not be contaminating the food every time they touch a burrito and then touch the cheese or lettuce. They should also instruct their servers to either never touch the inside of the paper bowls with their gloves, since it\'s usually the same staff member warming the tortillas and putting the paper bowl (for buritto bowls) on the counter. The staff should also not handle the hard taco shells with their hands unless their gloves have been changed since handling flour tortillas (they could use tongs for this as well). THE NEXT LEVEL: If Chipotle gets the message, and if they REALLY want to make their restaurants a safe place for Celiacs and the gluten intolerant to eat, then they should consider working with the Gluten Free Restaurant Awareness Program (GFRAP) run by the Gluten Intolerance Group (GIG), a national association of support groups and restaurants which has standardized procedures in place to assist restaurants who wish to prepare gluten free food safely. I was dignosis with Fibrosing Mediastinitis March of 2003, and there are no current treatments or cure for this rare disease. I have 2 teenage boys De\'Ron and Devin who are the highlights of my life. I would like to be able to live to see them graduate high school, get married and have kids. This petition is help get the this disease accepted into the CDC and NORD database, so it can get the research it needs to help find possible treatments and cures for Fibrosing Mediastinitis. According to some of the research there is not enough funding going towards helping finding a cure or possible treatment for this disease.

We, the signatories to this Petition, call upon The Governor, His Excellency Mr. Gordon Wetherell to suspend implementation of the National Health Insurance Plan (�the Plan�) until the following concerns have been fully addressed. 1. The National Health Insurance Board�s (�the Board�) and/or the Turks & Caicos Government�s (�TCIG�) failure to provide the public with details of coverage, including: a) a list of the hospital services which will be offered and covered under the Plan; b) a list of the inpatient drugs which will be covered under the Plan; c) a list of the chronic conditions for which outpatient drugs will be covered under the Plan; d) a list of local doctors who have enrolled in the program; e) what conditions will qualify for coverage under the �emergency overseas treatment program�; 2. The Board�s and/or TCIG�s failure to provide the public with details of the medical services Interhealth Canada is required to provide and the cost of those services. 3. The Board�s and/or TCIG�s failure to provide the public with details of medical services which will be provided by other parties, the identity of those other parties and the cost of those services. 4. The fact that some families will be put at a disadvantage because both parties are employed and there is no cap on contributions e.g. a working family with a combined income of $10,000 will be required to pay contributions on $10,000 per month whereas a family with only one person working and earning $10,000 would only be required to pay contributions on $7,800 per month. 5. TCIG�s failure to address the public�s concern that given the current debt, deficit, the anticipated increase in other taxes to cover those costs and the additional expenditure required under the Plan the TCIG and the public simply cannot afford the Plan in the current weak economy. If the penalty will have worse consequences than proceeding with the Plan disclose those consequences to the public so we can be confident of the decision to proceed with the Plan.

Vielen Hunden werden die Ohren lang gezogen, damit sie s��er wirken, wie es denn Hunden dabei geht ist den Besitzern vollkommen egal. Auch die Beine werden verz�chtet,aber das K�rpergewicht halten die Beine nicht aus. Nur das Aussehen z�hlt, doch auf die Gesundheit achtet keiner. Um die 400.000 Hunde werden bei Schh�nheitswettbwerben ausgenutzt, und bis zum Tod gequw�hlt. Die Verwandtschaften werden sehr oft gekreuzt, zu viele Kreuzungen innerhalb einer Hunde-Familie f�hren zu �berz�chtungen- und die kann schlimme Folgen haben. Ihr K�pfe werden klein gez�chtet, damit ihr Augen hervortrten damit sie knuffiger wirken. Damit k�nnen viele ihre Lider nicht schlie�en k�nnen, und somit erblinden die Hunde. Den Hunden werden schmertzhaft die Ohren lang gezogen. Viele Hunde bekommen schon fr�h Gelenkprobleme. Sehr viele Welpen m�ssen fr�h sterben, weil sie wegen ihrer Gene nicht �berleben k�nnen. Ihre Organe arbeiten nur teilweise, oder gar nicht. Doch davon lassen sich r�cksichtlose Z�chter nicht abschrecken. Um Hundeschauen zu gewinnen, gehen sie �ber jede Grenze. Auch bis zum Tod der Hunde! Den die Designer-Hunde sind nur interessant solange sie \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\"in\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\" sind, wenn sie aus der Mode kommen, werden sie vergessen und einfach quallvoll sterben.

Enough is Enough: No More Home Care Cuts

Dear Legislator: Millions of New Yorkers who rely upon home care services need your help. Home care allows the elderly, persons with disabilities and chronically ill patients of all ages to remain safely in their own homes. It reduces a patient\'s chances of being hospitalized, and it succeeds in helping individuals avoid premature or unwanted admission to a nursing home. For these reasons, home care is an extraordinarily cost-effective and cherished component of our health care system that matches an appropriate level of care with a patient\'s wish to remain in the most integrated and most preferred health setting -- his or her home. Despite these rational and humane reasons for supporting home care, Governor Paterson\'s administration has nevertheless indicated it will specifically target home care services for yet another round of draconian budget cuts, on top of the millions of dollars in home care cuts already implemented in prior budget cycles. We understand that the state faces extraordinarily difficult fiscal challenges, and we wholly appreciate the delicate balance of addressing these challenges while maintaining vital services for New Yorkers. This is why the home care community has stepped forward to offer constructive solutions of our own, rooted in sound health care policies, for addressing the state\'s budget without decimating access to services. Knowing that home care, by its very design, is an intrinsically cost-effective model of service delivery, the home care community has developed a comprehensive 33-part legislative proposal which further maximizes home care\'s cost-saving potential. The bill -- S.5179, known as the \"Home Care Accessibility, Efficiency and Improvement Act\" (HCA-EIA) -- will not only save Medicaid dollars but it will protect services for the elderly, chronically ill and persons with disabilities so that they can continue to be cared for at home, as is their wish. HCA-EIA achieves this important and achievable goal through home-care program enhancements, regulatory reforms, workforce flexibility, quality and performance standards, a realignment of financial incentives, and much more. Petition for better care/treatment at RichmondVets

In the past, i have been a regular client of Richmond Vets. This is because it seemed to be the cheaper option for care for all my animals - as they weren\\\'t insured. Recently, my 9 week old puppy - Alfie, had been throwing up and having bad diarrhea, which is pretty serious for a puppy that small. My mum decided to take him to the vet - and took a sample of his stool (which had traces of blood in it) for tests. However, the vet told my mum testing the stool would not be \\\'neccesary\\\'. Not only did they NOT test his stool, they did NOT check his temperature. They blamed his illness on - change of diet. A bit extreme for a 9 week old puppy with bloody feces and vomitting regularly, the vet also knew he did not have any injections - and could not carry any out because he had diarrhea. However as the day and night progressed, Alfie got rapidly worse - to a point where his tail stopped wagging and he looked blank. My mum took him back to the vet - Calder, for a second opinion - only to discover he was badly dehydrated, and he was promptly put on IV drips. Then the worse news followed - he had Parvo. Which is a DEADLY disease for puppies, and leaves him fighting for his life - with 50% chance. If this had been spotted earlier by Richmond, they could have done something THEN - rather then letting it progress. Luckily we got Alfie just before he started vomitting BLOOD. A few year ago, my cat Melvin was in a serious accident - presumably attacked by a dog. He had a broken jaw, amongst over serious injuries. After his stay in the vet, they sent him home - with no guidance or aftercare instructions. Melvin could not eat with a broken jaw, obviously. If we didn\\\'t act soon, he would have starved. So we used our own iniative and fed him mushed up food through a SYRINGE. I have heard other stories about the care at richmond vet - so these are not isolated cases. I have now learnt from my experiences with Richmond, the cost of PROPER CARE and looking after your pet, is never too much.

According to the American Cancer Society: Secondhand smoke causes premature death and disease in children and in adults who do not smoke. The scientific evidence shows that there is no safe level of exposure to secondhand smoke. Seconhand smoke causes cancer and is linked to the development of breast cancer. Georgia State University is fully aware of the dangers of second-hand smoke. As a matter of fact there is currently a policy in place in the Student Handbook that states the following: \"To protect the health of the University Community, smoking is prohibited in all buildings of the Georgia State University campus. In addition, the University Senate has passed a number of resolutions concerning smoking. The provisions of these resolutions which continue in effect are listed below. � Signs will be placed in every building setting forth the fact that smoking is not allowed. (May 19, 1988) � No-smoking clinics will be provided for members of faculty and staff through the Counseling Center or other campus agency, provided that funding can be obtained. (February 1, 1990) � No smoking allowed within a 25-foot radius of all University building entrances.
